Subject/Subject Description

Human geography deals with the relationship between people and places. The subject is based on human geographical and social science theoretical frameworks. Global Development focuses on global inequality and development challenges, particularly in the Global South. The Department of Human Geography has a broad social science geography profile, and teaching takes place in the main areas of Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Global Development, and Geography. We also participate in several interdisciplinary programs at both undergraduate and advanced levels.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include teaching, research, and administration, as well as following and contributing to the development within the subject area of Global Development from both a research and teaching perspective.

Teaching primarily takes place on the Global Development program, but also on the Human Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, and Geography programs, at both undergraduate and advanced levels. Undergraduate teaching is conducted in Swedish, while advanced level teaching is conducted in English. During the first two years, teaching duties are expected to amount to at least 50%.

The employment includes competence and research time according to the current collective agreement.

Qualifications

Eligible for appointment as University Lecturer is one who has completed a PhD in Human Geography or has equivalent scientific competence and demonstrated pedagogical skill.

A requirement is to have pedagogical and research merits within the subject area of Global Development.

The applicant must have the ability to collaborate as well as the ability and suitability otherwise required to perform the duties of the position well.

To perform the duties of the employment, the applicant must have documented ability to use Swedish in speech and writing at a professional level. This is demonstrated, for example, by documented experience of teaching in Swedish or a certificate of language skills corresponding to at least level B2 (CEFR).

Evaluation Criteria

Particular and equal importance is attached to pedagogical and scientific skill within the subject area of Global Development.

Pedagogical skill is normally demonstrated through teaching at both undergraduate and advanced levels. The skill must be well documented in a way that makes it possible to assess the quality of the pedagogical activity.

Great importance is attached to documented ability to collaborate with colleagues and co-workers.

Great importance is attached to having successfully planned, applied for, and received grants for research projects from external funders within the subject area of Global Development.

Importance is attached to administrative skill as well as the ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to inform about research and development work.

Higher education pedagogical education of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways is meritorious.

About the Employment

The employment is permanent and full-time, with start date by agreement. A six-month probationary period may apply.

Applicants who lack higher education pedagogical education of at least 15 higher education credits and who are not assessed to have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.
