The Department of Information Technology holds a leading position in both research and education at all levels. We are currently Uppsala University's third largest department, with over 350 employees, including 120 teachers and 120 doctoral students. About the role

We are looking for an economist who wants to work close to the business operations and strategically in a complex research environment, with responsibility for the ongoing economic work towards one or more divisions within the department. The role involves providing economic data and acting as a qualified support to division heads regarding economic management, analysis, and follow-up. The role also includes routine tasks within the economic area, which requires a non-hierarchical work and attitude approach to be successful in the job.

In your role as an economist at the department, you are expected to, in addition to being a qualified support to division heads, also provide support to our researchers regarding project budgeting and reporting to various funders. Together with the economic function, which currently consists of an economic coordinator, four economists, and an economic administrator, you will actively work on the development of the department's economic management and economic processes.

You are part of the department's administrative group and work closely with your colleagues within the economic function. You take independent responsibility for your areas of responsibility but are ready to step in and support other areas within the economic function if needed. Here, you will have a strategically important role in a knowledge-intensive and international environment with good opportunities to grow in your role as an economist.

Responsibilities

As an economist, you are responsible for:

  • Preparing budgets, annual accounts, forecasts, and analyses at the division level
  • Ongoing economic accounting
  • Acting as economic support to division heads and researchers
  • Accounting and reporting to national and international funders in externally financed research projects
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations (state and external)
  • Development and quality assurance of economic processes and routines

Tasks of a simpler administrative nature may occur.

Qualifications

Formal requirements

  • An academic degree in economics or equivalent competence assessed by the employer as equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of well-evaluated professional experience in qualified economic work
  • Documented experience in budgeting, annual accounts, analysis, and forecasting
  • Very good skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written
  • Very good skills in Excel and other Office tools
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and economic follow-up
  • Experience working independently with several parallel processes
  • Strong analytical ability and habit of presenting decision-making materials

Merits

  • Experience of economic work in public sector operations, preferably university/higher education
  • Good knowledge of public sector accounting and regulations
  • Documented experience of externally financed research
  • Experience of EU projects and their economic regulations
  • Experience of economic and payroll systems such as Raindance, Proceedo, Primula, or equivalent.

About the employment

The position is 100%. Start date: October 1, 2026, or as agreed. The employment is permanent, with a possible probation period of 6 months. Location: Uppsala.
