to apply for the job
Are you strongly interested in supply security and the role of raw materials in maintaining society's function and development? Then we might be looking for you!
With the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables, the development towards a circular economy, and an uncertain geopolitical landscape, there is an increased need for primary and secondary raw materials. As a geoscientist, do you want to help build and disseminate the knowledge about mineral resources required for Sweden to contribute to a secure raw material supply? If so, this job is for you.
The Mining and Mineral Industry Analysis Unit consists of 12 employees. The unit is responsible for producing and providing information describing the exploration and mining industries, conducting investigations, and participating in analyses regarding legislation and supply security analyses affecting these industries. Additionally, we work with international training assignments concerning mines and the environment.
Responsibilities
In this role, you often work on several tasks in parallel, both independently and in groups. The tasks involve various types of investigations, consultations, and government assignments, including knowledge gathering, analysis, and compilation and review of information related to the mining and exploration sector or the modern society's need for metal and mineral raw materials. The duties include producing background material through rapid knowledge summaries on specific issues, as well as participating in long-term work on collecting and building knowledge regarding Sweden's mineral resources. Therefore, fieldwork involving mapping and sampling may also be part of the position. Your responsibilities may include dialogue with both industry and other authorities, nationally and internationally. The work is largely performed together with colleagues, geologists, and experts from other disciplines.
Our work is largely driven by the needs of our commissioners and is carried out to varying degrees in collaboration with them. The responsibilities also include presenting results in report form and to audiences, which places high demands on good language skills.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- An academic degree at least at the Master's level, or equivalent knowledge acquired through professional experience that SGU considers equivalent and relevant for the position.
- Very good ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
- Good ability to express yourself well in English, both orally and in writing.
Meritorious experience and competence:
- Knowledge of Swedish regional geology and ore geology.
- Experience in geological fieldwork.
- Knowledge of or experience from exploration or the mining sector.
- Knowledge of or experience in post-mining treatment or mine-related environmental issues.
- Knowledge of or experience in international work, preferably within the mining industry.
- Knowledge of or experience in investigative work.
- Knowledge of or experience in project management and project work.
- Class B driver's license.
Personal Qualities
To thrive and succeed in the role, you are good at taking instructions and collaborating with both commissioners and colleagues from various expert areas within the agency. At the same time, you are self-reliant, take responsibility for your tasks, and structure and drive them independently. You are curious and see challenges as opportunities for improvement, with a willingness to share knowledge and clearly communicate results in an understandable way. You will represent SGU externally, so it is important that you are communicative and professional in interactions with others. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
