About the role

Uppsala Vatten's sludge production has been certified according to Revaq since 2013 to ensure that production meets the requirements set by farmers, consumers, and Swedish legislation. As an Environmental Engineer, you, together with our Environmental Coordinator, are responsible for ensuring that we follow the company's guidelines for systematic quality work that governs our work with, among other things, sludge. You will work in a broad and varied role with many contacts, both internally and externally.

The tasks include proactive upstream work aimed at reducing the input of hazardous substances to wastewater treatment plants, such as:

Developing strategies and action plans for upstream work
Conducting active dialogue with connected operations and following up on requirements and guidelines
Creating guidelines for connected operations' discharges to wastewater
Responding to consultations regarding the connection of operations
Serving as the contact person for incoming questions regarding discharges to wastewater
Conducting internal audits for Revaq certification

You also work for a sustainable return of nutrients, such as:

Developing strategies for sludge management
Checking the quality of the sludge and holding dialogue with stakeholders regarding sludge production, content, and use
Reporting and monitoring, among other things, sludge quality

As an Environmental Engineer, you belong to the Environment and Sustainability section. The position is located at our office in Uppsala Business Park. There is some possibility of remote work. Travel within the role occurs.

Qualifications

University degree in technology and/or natural sciences within chemistry, water and wastewater, or environment
Experience from the water and wastewater sector or the process industry
Very good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written
Category B driver's license is required
Experience in the field of chemistry is meritorious
Previous experience with Revaq certification is meritorious

Other information

A large part of our operations is classified as essential societal functions because we supply Sweden's fourth largest city with drinking water. For this position, a security screening interview with background check will be conducted prior to employment. You should also be prepared to be mobilized for wartime service within the framework of Uppsala Vatten and Avfall's role in total defense. Uppsala Vatten applies a 6-month probation period.
