Personal assistance is a support service designed to enable individuals with extensive disabilities to participate in society and live as independently as possible. Personal assistance is tailored to the individual's needs.

Job Responsibilities

We are currently looking for a personal assistant to join a work group for one of our child cases in central Karlstad. Together with guardians and colleagues, you will be part of creating a good daily life for the care recipient, where routines and working methods are important.

The ideal candidate is someone who wants to work with children and feels confident handling potentially challenging behavior. You need to be physically active and strong, alert, and able to anticipate needs. You want to make a difference for the person you assist and are flexible and adaptable to follow the boy's needs.

As a personal assistant, you are a key player in ensuring this boy has a meaningful life and can live like others. The boy needs support and help to ensure the environment is safe and secure, as he lacks both consequential thinking and impulse control, but is also sensitive to impressions and changes. The work involves seeing the world through the boy's curious eyes and adapting the environment accordingly so he can explore it based on his own premises.

Since the boy is active, duties include long walks, cycling, climbing on play structures, visiting the swimming pool, and being active outdoors year-round regardless of weather.

The boy attends school, so working hours on school days are from the afternoon until the following morning. You work every other weekend, and during weekends and holidays, daytime work may also occur. As a personal assistant, you work in the boy's home in close collaboration with the parent, so it is important that the personal chemistry feels right for everyone. Since the job involves working with children, an additional suitability assessment for the parent is required. In this assistance role, you are expected to be calm, secure, and stable with a strong sense of responsibility, as well as having a genuine desire to work with a child who needs active support to interact with the environment.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from both women and men, but you must have excellent command of the Swedish language. Being non-smoking is a requirement!

Previous experience as a personal assistant, preferably with a focus on autism and low-affective handling, is meritorious. We also appreciate experience working with visual supports, sign language, and various aids that facilitate daily life. A suitable educational background in nursing, social work, or pedagogy is an advantage. Personal suitability and chemistry are highly valued. To succeed in the role, you need to be calm and confident in yourself and possess the ability to handle different people and their emotional expressions.

You have an easy time creating and maintaining good relationships. You have a professional approach and a good ability to collaborate with the individual, relatives, colleagues, and other key professionals. In your execution, you are responsible and meticulous. Since situations can change quickly, you are solution-focused and flexible. We also look for someone with good physical fitness to handle all activities included in the assignment.

Before a confirmed employment offer, we require extracts from the criminal record register. It is therefore good if you order these extracts in time to present them upon receiving an employment offer. The registers you order are "Control of Own Data" and for "Work with Children within LSS".

Before you start working, you will receive an introduction to ensure you gain knowledge about the boy's routines and learn to handle the equipment the boy needs.

Night work implies on-call duty according to Appendix J.
