Do you want to make a real difference in the daily lives of young people? We are looking for dedicated residential support staff who want to work closely with high school students from across the country in a safe and structured living environment.

About the position

In Örebro, you will find Sweden's only national high school for students with varying degrees of hearing impairment and general speech disorders. During their studies, students are offered accommodation in our residence where they have the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop during a crucial time in their lives.

We are now looking for several new colleagues for our various teams! As a residential support worker, you are responsible for working with the students in the residence. The work group you belong to consists of three work teams with which you collaborate closely. You are offered varied working days with a focus on creating a safe and meaningful everyday life for the students.

Our working hours are primarily scheduled for evenings, nights, and weekends when the students are present in the residence. Your role is central to the students' daily lives – you create the conditions for safety, study peace, and personal development. The work is based on a relationship-building approach where you are an important adult role model and contact person, both for the students and their network.

Examples of tasks:

  • Work with key person assignments and be responsible for a number of students
  • Create and maintain good relationships with students, guardians, and the school
  • Contribute to safety, structure, and study peace in the residence
  • Support students in daily routines, planning, and taking responsibility
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external actors regarding the student's development
  • Actively work with order and tidiness in the living environment

About the workplace

We operate student housing for high school youth from across the country with a focus on safety, structure, and study peace. The core of our work is the relationship-building key person assignment, where collaboration with the student, guardian, and school is crucial for success. Sweden's only national high school for students with deafness and hearing impairment. Students with general speech disorders and combined visual and hearing impairments also study at the National High School.

There is also an adapted school for the deaf and hard of hearing here. The National High School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing offers a number of national programs and all introductory programs. The education is conducted at three of Örebro Municipality's high schools – Rudbecksgymnasiet, Tullängsgymnasiet, and Virginska gymnasiet.

The National High School's residence is part of the Upper Secondary School and Labour Market Administration. Here, 1,400 employees work in a variety of roles to give young people and adult residents of Örebro the same opportunities for education and self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

To fit the role, you are secure, calm, and professional in your interactions and collaboration with others. As a person, you are positive, structured, and solution-focused, and have a natural ability to prioritize in your work. It is important that you are outgoing and socially active at the workplace to create contact and, over time, build relationships with the students. You must also be able to communicate in Swedish, both orally and in writing, with young people and guardians who do not know sign language.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirements:

  • Education as a social pedagogue or leisure-time pedagogue, the Child and Youth Program, or other education that the employer deems equivalent

Merits:

  • Experience working with young people or students with special needs
  • Experience from schools, youth residences, or similar operations
  • Basic IT skills
  • Knowledge of sign language
