Make a difference. Every day.
The Surgical Clinic is one of the largest departments at Kristianstad Central Hospital and includes outpatient services for vascular, upper/lower gastrointestinal, and breast/plastic surgery patients. We also have an oncology treatment unit, Acute Surgery Ward, Surgery Ward, Gynecology Surgery ENT, Urology and Vascular Ward, as well as Acute Orthopedics Ward.
Our Surgery Ward specializes in patients undergoing surgical treatment for colorectal conditions, among others. We care for 13 patients across two teams. We treat patients with acute surgical conditions, and several of our patients have oncological diagnoses. We provide both pre- and postoperative care. The field is advancing rapidly; surgical techniques and medical treatments are becoming increasingly complex yet more accessible to a larger number of patients. We collaborate closely with the Gynecology Surgery ENT department, which is located on the same floor.
Our knowledgeable and dedicated staff always keep the patient at the center of our work. We are a large team of various professional categories working closely together around the patient. Our ward pharmacist relieves nurses by ordering medications, ensuring our inventory is stocked, and refilling medication carts for each team. The pharmacist also assists with preparing IV drips, antibiotics, and tablet splitting. During weekdays, we have coordinators who handle incoming calls and a Discharge Coordinator (SVU) who plans and assesses patient needs prior to discharge.

RESPONSIBILITIES
At our Surgery Ward, you will find exciting and developmental work in a pleasant work environment where everyone helps each other. You will be surrounded by friendly and competent colleagues in close teamwork. The team consists of one nurse and one assistant nurse who care for 6 to 7 patients during their shift.
As a nurse, you will work with preoperative preparations and postoperative care for patients who have undergone colorectal surgery. Some of our patients receive epidural catheters in connection with surgery, meaning you will work with advanced pain relief. We work according to ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery), an evidence-based care program designed to ensure faster patient recovery, fewer complications, and shorter hospital stays. Our work group focuses on development and improvement within our unit. We have well-established routines and care deeply about our patients.
We value your development and ensure there is time for both education and reflection. You have the opportunity to schedule training in your timetable, and on the ward, there is an education nurse and an education assistant nurse who help and inspire continuous learning.
If you are new to your role as a nurse, there is an opportunity to participate in our clinical foundation year. Here, you will receive an individually adapted introduction program where the education nurse is available for support, supervision, and training. There are also opportunities for education and competence development, as well as observation visits in departments with which we collaborate. We offer you exciting and varied work with several development opportunities.
If you are curious and interested in learning more about the ward or the nursing role here, please feel free to contact Laura Trobäck, the Unit Manager, via phone or email.
