Job Description
The Division of Road and Railway Engineering is seeking a motivated and collaborative postdoctoral researcher for a project focused on developing machine learning tools for pavement management. The project is carried out in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) and partners from the road industry.
The project aims to develop data-driven decision support tools to predict pavement performance and plan maintenance and strengthening. It will be based on extensive datasets on pavement performance and use advanced methods in machine learning and statistics to generate forecasts and evaluate the effect of different maintenance and strengthening strategies. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the work of extracting and analyzing pavement and traffic data, integrating these with climate and environmental data, and developing validated predictive models for pavement deterioration.
The position is research-focused and offers the opportunity to strengthen independence and build qualifications for a future academic or industrial career. Teaching at various academic levels may also be included. The work is conducted in an interdisciplinary environment combining expertise in pavement technology, mechanics of pavement materials and structures, and machine learning. The role offers opportunities to contribute to both high-impact scientific publications and practical decision support tools for the road engineering sector.
