Neuro Department – Seeking Nursing Assistant at Akademiska Sjukhuset

We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

We have a large catchment area as we are one of six highly specialized neurosurgical clinics in Sweden, receiving both planned and emergency patients around the clock. The patients we care for have brain bleeds, tumors in the brain and spine, spinal cord injuries, vascular malformations, and hydrocephalus.

Your Role

Here, you will be responsible, together with other nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists, for the pre- and postoperative care of patients in modern facilities. You can expect a varied job with challenging tasks. You will become part of a wonderful team with mixed ages, genders, and experiences. We support each other and help out. You are never alone!

Your Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a trained nursing assistant (undersköterska) with at least three years of experience from inpatient care. Experience in surgical care is meritorious; however, you are expected to have knowledge and documented experience in basic nursing care as well as specific nursing tasks such as catheterization, blood sampling, and performing manual checks. Since you work as the sole nursing assistant in our teams, you need experience and knowledge regarding documentation and good planning of your work. We will place great emphasis on personal suitability in this recruitment.

Your Competencies

You enjoy working with patients and their relatives. You put the patient first and are responsible and motivated in your work. We have a high patient flow, which requires you to be flexible and able to prioritize your work.

What We Offer

We can offer you a probationary position for 6 months with a chance of permanent full-time employment. The introduction is adapted to your previous experience. As we apply individual scheduling, you have great opportunities to control your work week. Working hours are scheduled for day, evening, night, and weekends. Start date by agreement. The position may be filled before the application deadline, so do not wait to submit your application.

For your professional development, we also have regularly scheduled training days where we deepen our knowledge in current topics as a group. We have an internal advanced course in neurosurgery for nursing assistants and nurses, lasting six full days. This course runs by semester and all staff are offered the opportunity to attend. As a nursing assistant, you also have the opportunity to take the "Grund-us" course, which is a systematic professional introduction to somatic inpatient care at Akademiska Sjukhuset, including practical skills training and lectures.

Here you receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

Important information regarding your employment:

Since July 1, 2023, "undersköterska" has been a protected professional title. This means that a certificate from the National Board of Health and Welfare is required to use the title. You can read more about the new legal requirements here: https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/skyddad-yrkestitel-for-underskoterska/information-om-skyddad-yrkestitel/ (https://legitimation.socialstyrelsen.se/skyddad-yrkestitel-for-underskoterska/information-om-skyddad-yrkestitel/) Due to national legal requirements, you may receive the title "care assistant" (omvårdnadsassistent) in your employment contract.

Region Uppsala values the qualities that equal gender distribution and diversity bring to operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different birth backgrounds, functional abilities, and life experiences.

Region Uppsala mobilizes all permanent staff based on the needs of the total defense. This implies no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before a decision on employment, a check of the record of offenses and preliminary investigation registers is conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may come to work within psychiatric healthcare, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of addicts, areas covered by facultative register extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the tasks at present are not intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Region Uppsala's own channels, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and advertising sales representatives.
