Responsibilities
The responsibilities include processing cases prior to start permits and final permits through technical consultations, site visits, and concluding meetings. A key part of the job is providing clear information and advice regarding legislative requirements to various stakeholders, ranging from private individuals to experienced developers.
To thrive in this role, you must be able to work in a structured manner as you handle cases in different phases. You set clear goals and plan activities and projects well in advance. You use your time efficiently and work systematically, organized, and methodically. You follow up on cases and ensure they are concluded.
The work involves frequent contact with building permit applicants and other stakeholders. You show respect and consideration for those you meet in your professional role.
Case processing is entirely digital, and the unit continuously works to improve and develop processes to create a more efficient workflow. The role involves independent work supported by an engaged and forward-looking unit, where consensus and internal check-ins are a natural part of the work.
The unit also handles supervision regarding elevators, OVK (Ventilation System Survey), soot cleaning, and fire safety control. As a Building Inspector in the City of Malmö, you are expected to work broadly and contribute expertise within your area of operation in various forums for the department and the city to create the right conditions throughout the entire construction process chain.
We are looking for two new colleagues with the qualifications listed below.
Qualifications
We are looking for two Building Inspectors with a good understanding of laws and regulations. You enjoy following projects from start to finish, work independently, and have strong drive. At the same time, you are a team player who contributes to consensus and common goals within the team and has the ability to see opportunities in change.
You collaborate closely with colleagues, and our applicants are both professional actors and private individuals, which requires sensitivity, good communication skills, and relationship-building abilities. As the face of the City Planning Office, you are an ambassador for the City of Malmö.
Requirements for the first position:
- Engineering education in building technology of at least 180 ECTS credits, post-secondary Building Inspector education, or other education we deem relevant for the position
- Good communication skills in Swedish, both oral and written
- Category B driver's license
Meritorious:
- Experience of municipal operations and building permit work
- Experience of relevant tasks in the private sector
Requirements for the second position:
- Engineering education in building technology of at least 180 ECTS credits, post-secondary Building Inspector education, or other education we deem relevant for the position
- At least 2 years of experience working as a Building Inspector
- Experience of municipal operations and building permit work
- Good communication skills in Swedish, both oral and written
- Category B driver's license
Meritorious:
- Experience of relevant tasks in the private sector

About the workplace
The Department of Architecture and Building Permits is one of the City Planning Office's four departments and consists of five units: three building permit units, one administrative unit, and the housing adaptation unit. We are a department that processes building permits, technical notifications, and supervision according to the Planning and Building Act, as well as applications for housing adaptation according to the Housing Adaptation Allowance Act. The department's focus is on developing Malmö's urban construction from a sustainable and attractive perspective, and maintaining good and close cooperation with both clients and applicants.
The City Planning Office is a dynamic and creative workplace, with premises in the center of Malmö. We have 210 employees and about 20 managers, distributed across four different departments. The City Planning Office is an authority for planning, building, and land surveying matters. The administration works with comprehensive planning, detailed planning, land division, building permits, measurement, and mapping.
