Our operations are characterized by high expectations for both students and staff, as well as a strong focus on collegial learning and joint competence development. We continuously conduct systematic analyses and evaluations of teaching to ensure quality and development. Lead teachers play an active role in this work by providing support and development at an area-wide level.

All our schools have well-functioning student health teams that work closely with the operations. We work according to the "Gävle Model," a municipality-wide initiative for safety and values where all staff are involved.

As a new employee, you will receive a mentor to support your introduction. We view good relationships with students as a cornerstone of our work and actively strive to strengthen students' safety and well-being in school.

Location and Commuting

The schools are located in quiet areas in Bomhus, approximately 4–6 km from Gävle city center. It is easy to get here by:

  • Bus
  • Car
  • Bicycle (good cycling paths)

Special Needs Teacher / Special Educator

Do you want to make a real difference for students' learning and well-being? We are now looking for an engaged special needs teacher/special educator who wants to contribute to our preventive and health-promoting work.

We are currently seeking a full-time special educator starting August 12, 2026.

The position is currently distributed as follows:

  • 50% at Sjöängsskolan
  • 50% at Lillhagsskolan

Responsibilities

As a special needs teacher/special educator, you will:

  • Provide special educational support to students individually, in groups, and in classes.
  • Be an active part of and represent the Student Health Team (SHT).
  • Support and supervise teachers and pedagogues in their educational work.
  • Identify, analyze, and map students' need for support together with teachers.
  • Conduct and follow up on mappings in classes.
  • Participate in and conduct investigations regarding special support.
  • Work with ITPA, Logos, Legilexi, and other mapping tools.
  • Coach and supervise staff on special educational matters.
  • Contribute to developing teaching through close collaboration in work teams.

You will work closely with:

  • The Principal and Deputy Principal
  • The School Counselor, with a special focus on increasing student well-being
  • Other staff in student health services
  • Special needs teachers and special educators
  • Teachers and pedagogues

Here you will:

  • Work independently and systematically

  • Contribute to preventive and health-promoting student health work
  • Play a central role in developing the school's support measures

You will work within the principal's area, currently distributed as 50% at Sjöängsskolan and 50% at Lillhagsskolan. The current assignment involves work in grade 6. You are an important part of the school's student health services and work both strategically and operationally in close collaboration with school leadership and staff.

Qualifications and Merits

We are looking for you who have:

  • A teaching license and further education as a special educator or alternatively as a special needs teacher.
  • Knowledge of and experience with working with digital tools.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the curriculum for compulsory school.
  • The ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Several years of experience working as a teacher in compulsory school and preferably experience working as a special educator and special needs teacher.
  • Licenses in ITPA, Logos, Phonology, or other mapping materials.

To succeed in the role, you are:

  • Structured and plan your work in a thoughtful manner.
  • Initiative-taking in social contexts and have the ability to build trust in your professional relationships.
  • Non-hierarchical in your collaboration with colleagues, citizens, and actors.
  • Good at creating open dialogue and adapting your language to the current situation.
  • Skilled at making students feel a sense of belonging and inclusion.
  • Able to lead, motivate, and inspire others, helping them develop and feel good.
  • Capable of creating trusting relationships and making others feel safe.

The final candidate must be able to provide a certificate from the police regarding their criminal record for work within school or preschool. This should not be attached to your application.

Employment Type and Working Hours

Employment Type: Permanent position.
Working Hours: Daytime.
