WORK ASSIGNMENTS

Polhemsskolan is Gävle's largest upper secondary school with approximately 1,600 students. The school offers 10 national programs, including one preparatory program, nine vocational programs, and an adapted upper secondary school. Polhemsskolan has well-developed work teams and extensive quality work aimed at increasing student goal achievement.

One of the positions is linked to teaching in vocational programs where students study subjects. The other position is for the individual program where students study subject areas.

In the adapted primary school, you work together with other educators, such as preschool teachers, leisure-time center pedagogues, and student assistants. We also work in close collaboration with guardians and other actors outside the school. The education in adapted schools provides students with important knowledge and values, contributes to personal development and social cohesion, and creates a good foundation for active participation in society.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• being responsible for planning, teaching, and assessment according to decided goals and guidelines for adapted schools
• creating a school where everyone feels safe and seen
• designing a good, enjoyable, and varied school day with the students' best interests in focus
• challenging and supporting students with your competence so they achieve good academic results
• adapting your teaching based on all students' needs and prerequisites.

QUALIFICATIONS

For the position of Special Education Teacher focusing on subject areas, we are looking for you who have:

• Preschool teacher certification and preferably further education as a Special Education Teacher focusing on intellectual disability
• Knowledge of and familiarity with the curriculum for adapted schools
• Previous experience working with intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, neuropsychiatric disabilities, vision, and hearing impairments
• Knowledge of and experience working with digital tools
• Ability to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing

Previous experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), sign language, and low-affective approach is meritorious for this position, as is experience working within adapted schools.
