Job Description

Polhemsskolan is Gävle's largest upper secondary school with approximately 1,600 students. The school offers 10 national programs, including one preparatory program, nine vocational programs, and an adapted upper secondary school. At Polhemsskolan, we have well-developed work teams and extensive quality work aimed at increasing student goal achievement.

One of the positions is linked to teaching within vocational programs where students study specific subjects. The other position is directed towards the individual program where students study specific subject areas.

In the adapted primary school, you work together with other educators in teaching, such as preschool teachers, leisure center pedagogues, and student assistants. We also work in close collaboration with guardians and other actors outside the school. Education in the adapted school provides students with important knowledge and values, contributes to personal development and social cohesion, and creates a good foundation for active participation in society.

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Taking responsibility for planning, teaching, and assessment according to decided goals and guidelines for the adapted school.
  • Creating a school where everyone feels safe and seen.
  • Designing a good, enjoyable, and varied school day with the students' best interests at the forefront.
  • Using your competence to challenge and support students so they achieve good academic results.
  • Adapting your teaching based on all students' needs and prerequisites.

Qualifications

To succeed in the role, you must:

  • Be a licensed and qualified primary school teacher for grades 4–6 or 7–9, and preferably have further education as a special education teacher specializing in intellectual disability.
  • Have previous experience working with several of the following areas: intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, neuropsychiatric disabilities, and visual and hearing impairments.
  • Have knowledge of the curriculum for the adapted school.
  • Be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • Have knowledge of and experience working with digital tools.

Previous experience with AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), sign language, and low-arousal approach is meritorious for this position, as is experience working within the adapted school.
