Åmål Municipality is seeking teachers in Swedish, Mathematics, English, Natural Sciences, Social Studies, and Humanities for grades 4-6
What we offer
Södra Skolan is a school for grades 5-6 located in central Åmål. The school boasts a positive work climate among its 160 students and approximately 20 staff members.

We are currently looking for a teacher with qualifications in Swedish, Mathematics, English, Natural Sciences (NO), Social Studies (SO), and Humanities (TK) for grades 4-6.

Your role
As a teacher for grades 5-6, your mission is to create a safe and inspiring learning environment where all students feel seen and respected. You work to ensure that every student develops their full potential by supporting their path towards achieving educational goals and fostering their development into democratic citizens. You build positive and sustainable relationships by creating a safe and open atmosphere where students feel respected and heard. Through active listening, providing feedback, and being a clear adult role model, you contribute to strengthening students' self-esteem and their ability to collaborate and communicate with each other. You promote achievement and development for all students by ensuring that teaching is adapted to their diverse needs and prerequisites, and that they receive the help and support necessary to reach the knowledge goals specified in the curriculum. By using varied teaching methods, clear goal orientation, and formative assessment, you ensure that students not only reach their goals but also develop an understanding of their own learning and how they can improve.
You are an active part of preventing and handling conflicts and problems inside and outside the classroom by encouraging cooperation, empathy, and responsibility. You support students in developing their social skills and their ability to handle both successes and setbacks in a constructive manner.
You collaborate with colleagues to create a coherent thread in teaching and to ensure equitable assessment and instruction. You communicate regularly with parents and guardians to ensure that students' needs are considered and that there is a shared understanding of how students' learning can be promoted both in and outside of school.
Who you are
We are looking for you who is a good relationship builder with great patience, flexibility, and who has good experience working in a support unit involving teaching a smaller group of students who require various adjustments. To meet the students' needs, you must be able to make adjustments and handle unexpected situations. In the classroom, you offer a calm teaching environment with clear structure where everyone knows what is expected of them. You plan and follow up on your teaching using the systems provided by the school. You are confident in your role as a leader in the classroom and are engaged. As a colleague, you collaborate with peers, school management, and student health services for the benefit of all students. For this role, personal competencies are highly valued.
In Åmål Municipality, we are working on a major development project regarding language and knowledge-developing working methods (SKUA), which will permeate our competence development during the upcoming school year. All educators participate in the project, and we would welcome it if you, upon being hired, have a strong interest in working with language and knowledge-developing methods.
Formal competence requirements
- Qualified teacher for grades 4-6 with teaching certification
- Good proficiency in Swedish, both spoken and written
- The position requires a valid B-class driver's license
- Digital identification via BankID
Merits
Experience from working as a teacher is meritorious.
Employment
Permanent position at 100% with start date 2026-08-12 or as agreed. The employment may begin with a probationary period. The teacher position at the lower secondary level is currently located at Södra Skolan within the Culture and Education Administration, which is organized directly under the Culture and Education Committee. Your direct supervisor is Principal Kristina Eldh Gustavsson.
The position will be filled subject to necessary decisions being made.
