The Environmental Section works with environmental issues in shipping and aviation. Your main tasks will cover climate issues, primarily within the shipping sector.
The tasks are varied and include contributing to the development of global and national instruments for the climate transition of shipping. This involves participating in and representing Sweden at meetings within the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the UN body for shipping, and within the EU. The tasks may also involve technical matters concerning regulations for climate transition. Other issues within the section's or department's area of responsibility may also become relevant.
The position includes travel, both domestic and international.

You will
- drive the work on developing regulations and instruments to reduce shipping's climate impact, including describing and analyzing the consequences of proposed regulations
- prepare questions for, and participate in, international negotiations and expert groups
- write background materials for, and answer questions from, the Government Offices of Sweden
- collaborate internationally, within the EU, and cooperate with other Swedish authorities, as well as have a dialogue with industry organizations
- answer questions from the public and other actors, as well as respond to official consultations.
- Support other sections of the Swedish Transport Administration with specialized knowledge.
You must have
- a relevant university degree, in e.g., environmental science, law, international relations, or other education we deem relevant
- experience working with climate issues
- good ability to express yourself orally and in writing in both Swedish and English.
It is meritorious if you also have
- international experience in negotiations, development work, or similar
- experience in analyzing and developing proposals for instruments, preferably based on Swedish priorities with trade-offs between different societal goals
- experience in strategic investigative work
- experience in reading and interpreting legal texts
- worked at a government agency
- experience working in shipping and/or aviation.

The employment is permanent with placement in Norrköping, Stockholm, or Gothenburg.
Appointment according to agreement.
We normally apply a probationary period. We offer remote work based on the needs of the operations, up to 3 days.
An employment with us may involve placement in a security class. A security investigation with register check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) may therefore be conducted. For some of our tasks in the security class, Swedish citizenship is required.
