Commuter rail traffic is one of Stockholm's most important lifelines. Every day, hundreds of thousands of people travel with us, and our mission is clear: to deliver safe, stable, and reliable traffic. To succeed, we need not only strong operational delivery but also sharp and forward-looking business management.
We are now looking for a Business Controller with a focus on the Vehicles business area. This is a role for you who wants to take greater responsibility than traditional financial management and step in as a true business partner to the operations.
Your Role
In this role, you will become a key person in the work of developing how we monitor and manage the business. You will work with a focus on the vehicle area and be part of the vehicle management group, where you contribute with a business perspective, analysis, and active support in follow-up and business development. In the long term, the role may also include responsibility for more business areas, depending on how the business needs develop.
You work close to the operations with responsibility for understanding what drives results, costs, and performance. The role is not just about generating decision support materials, but about turning analysis into decisions and concrete actions. In daily work, this involves following up on outcomes and key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing deviations, contributing to planning and forecasting, and participating in monthly closing and reporting to the group and the customer/orderer, Trafikförvaltningen. You are also expected to communicate insights clearly and in a user-adapted manner, both to the operations and to top management.
We are in a phase where several processes are still being developed. Therefore, you will play an important role in creating structure, increasing transparency, and developing effective ways to visualize and follow up on data. You contribute perspective and momentum to the dialogue with the operations and help develop working methods over time.
Vehicles is a complex area where the connection between maintenance production, availability, quality, and economics is crucial. This makes the role particularly central, as you are expected to contribute to creating a holistic view, clarity, and relevant prioritizations in a business where operational and economic issues are closely linked.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone who is confident in their role as a controller and is motivated by working close to the operations. You are genuinely curious, have strong analytical skills, a strong business understanding, and are driven by creating structure, insights, and momentum in a complex environment. You thrive in contexts where you can combine a strategic perspective with a pragmatic and operationally close working style.
As a person, you are clear, pedagogical, and trust-building in your communication. You collaborate easily, can challenge constructively, and contribute to creating consensus and direction. You thrive in environments that are not fully finished, where you have the opportunity to influence and build structures together with others.
You have several years of experience in operationally close financial management or business controlling, preferably within production, maintenance, or other complex operations
You have a relevant academic education in economics or equivalent experience that we assess as comparable
You have strong analytical skills and experience working in various systems and data environments, such as Excel, BI tools, or similar
You are confident in communicating economic insights clearly and adapted to the audience, both to the operations and to top management, and have experience creating PowerPoint presentations
You communicate fluently in Swedish and have a good ability to create understanding and engagement regarding economic issues in the operations
Why this role?
This is a role for you who wants to combine analysis, business understanding, and operationally close management support in a central part of the business. You step into a situation where working methods and control are still being developed, giving you good opportunities to influence.
You will have a clear position in the vehicle management group, and for the right person, there is a possibility that the role over time may cover more business areas.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference in a business with high ambitions and a significant impact on the daily lives of Stockholmers.
Application and Information
The role reports to the CFO, is located in Stockholm, and has no personnel responsibility. You will become part of a team of eight people who together are responsible for finance and purchasing.
Selection is ongoing, so please submit your application as soon as possible. As part of the process, we will conduct a background check.
We are a drug- and alcohol-free workplace where random checks are conducted.
If you are currently employed or have previously been employed within the SJ Group, we will take internal references as a step in the employment process.
