About Us
The position is within the subject of biosciences, which at University West is defined as the study of biological structures, processes, and functions at various levels, from biomolecules to living cells, organ systems, whole organisms, populations, species, and ecosystems. The field also includes the study of the emergence of living organisms and their interactions with their environment. Furthermore, it encompasses biological applications in various fields such as medicine, agriculture, food production, and nature and environmental conservation.
The position is located within the Department of Biology and Bioinformatics. The appointment as Associate Lecturer primarily involves teaching in biosciences and the administration associated with these tasks. Additional duties may be included in the position.
We are looking for someone who has:
- a completed advanced degree in biosciences with a focus on molecular biology, or equivalent competence, or other professional skills that are significant given the subject content of the position and the tasks involved
- practical experience in laboratory work, particularly sterile technique, extraction and quality control of DNA/RNA, and methods such as qPCR, Western blot, and cloning
- documented knowledge in biostatistics using R
- ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, in English
- documented good teamwork skills.
We will also value the following assessment criteria for the appointment:
- Demonstrated pedagogical skill based on aspects described in the University's employment regulations.
- The degree of such skill that is a requirement for eligibility.
- Completed higher education pedagogy training of at least 15 higher education credits, or have a certificate of training in higher education pedagogy equivalent to 15 higher education credits, or have acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways.
- Ability to communicate well, both orally and in writing, in Swedish.
- Good ability to independently plan and organize work.
For this position, great emphasis will be placed on practical experience in laboratory work, particularly sterile technique, extraction and quality control of DNA/RNA, and methods such as qPCR, Western blot, and cloning, as well as demonstrated pedagogical skill based on aspects described in the University's employment regulations.
Employment type: This is a fixed-term position until January 2027.
