The General Staff Headquarters, International Cooperation Section within the Strategic Unit of the Defence Staff, is part of the staff of the Supreme Commander (ÖB) and the Director General (GD). The section is responsible for the Swedish Armed Forces' international relations and cooperation with other nations and international organizations. At the section, matters at the military-strategic level are handled in close cooperation with other commands and staffs within the General Staff Headquarters and the Defence Staff, with foreign defence attaches in Sweden and Swedish defence attaches abroad, as well as with the Government Offices and other authorities primarily within the defence sector. The section is seeking civilian case officers on a temporary basis, who will primarily work with matters related to the Swedish Armed Forces' priority partner countries and defence cooperation.
Main Responsibilities
Direct and coordinate bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation with other relevant staffs and commands, with the following overall scope:
- Be responsible for the preparation and presentation of background material for the Supreme Commander's and other senior leaders' travels, meetings, and visits
- Lead the preparation of matters with an international focus within the General Staff Headquarters prior to decisions by the Swedish Armed Forces' senior leaders or further processing at the Government Offices (Ministry of Defence)
- Support the Government Offices (Ministry of Defence) with background material related to international cooperation (e.g., agreements, meetings, travels, and visits)
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- An academic degree with a focus on crisis management and security or security policy; international relations; military science; peace and conflict studies; or other relevant education assessed by the Swedish Armed Forces as equivalent
- Current and relevant work experience from a strategic and/or operational level, with an international connection
- Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English
- Good knowledge of Office365

You are expected to deliver and switch focus quickly, which places demands on your flexibility. You are proactive and self-reliant in your work. You find it very easy to collaborate with others, as coordination and contact with other parts of the Swedish Armed Forces, the Government Offices, and other international organizations are part of the job duties. You are an experienced writer and have experience giving rigorous oral presentations adapted for different audiences. In the selection process, great importance will be placed on personal attributes and suitability.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Work experience from previous relevant positions within the Swedish Armed Forces
- Relevant experience of bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation at the strategic level in close cooperation with the Government Offices, especially the Ministry of Defence
- Relevant experience of international service
- Experience of military service, including basic military training
- Language skills in a third language that increase the opportunities to solve tasks within the Swedish Armed Forces' international relations, with a focus on the Swedish Armed Forces' priority cooperations

Individual salary setting applies.
Employment type: Temporary position for 12 months.
Employment level: Full-time.
Work location: Stockholm.
Date of commencement: As soon as possible according to agreement.

Information about the recruiting unit: The Supreme Commander and the Director General are located at the General Staff Headquarters. The General Staff Headquarters has approximately 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. As of 2023-01-01, the General Staff Headquarters consists of the Defence Staff, the Operations Command, the Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the General Staff Headquarters' Staff Department and independent units for supervision. Employment with us involves placement in a security classification. Swedish citizenship is usually required. Security clearance with register check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed. The employment also includes an obligation to serve abroad. The meaning of this varies depending on the type of position. A CV and cover letter must be attached to the application for employment.
