Medborgarskolan is one of Sweden's eight study associations. We are located throughout the country at approximately 70 local offices. The organization consists of seven non-profit associations – a national organization and six regions – each of which is an independent legal entity with full responsibility for its own activities within civic education, assignments, and schools. We offer civic education both in our own name and in collaboration with associations and other partners.
Medborgarskolan Mitt covers the counties of Värmland, Örebro, Västmanland, Uppsala, Södermanland, Gävleborg, and Dalarna. The region has 9 local offices, several music houses, approximately 65 employees, and around 750 course and circle leaders. We also run Kullerbyttan Preschool in Säffle, Ekeby School in Sunne, Karlstad Global Gymnasium, and Dansskola Entré. Support functions and the accounting center, which handles the regions' financial and payroll administration, are located at the federation's headquarters in Uppsala.
Controller for Medborgarskolan Mitt
Medborgarskolan Mitt is now seeking a Controller for a newly established staff function, where the staff consists of employees within finance, quality, communication, marketing, administration, property/premises, etc. The position is located in Örebro, where Region Mitt is headquartered.
As a Controller, you play a central role in the region's financial management. You work both operationally and analytically, with a focus on ensuring high quality in reporting and financial data. The role involves close collaboration with both regional and national functions, and you work closely with other competencies within quality assurance and follow-up work. As a Controller, you report directly to the Head of Staff.
Main Responsibilities
- Ongoing financial work such as planning, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as monitoring the region's finances
- Prepare data, analyses, and reports for the board, management, managers, and budget holders
- In collaboration with the Head of Staff, drive and execute liquidity planning, regional closing, annual accounts, and tax declarations for the companies and associations included in the region
- Ensure correct accounting according to current regulations
- Responsible for grant applications, handling, and follow-up of state grants for civic education and school funding
- System administrator in budget and forecasting systems
- Part of Medborgarskolan's national collaboration group for Controllers
Qualifications, Experience
We are looking for someone who has:
- An academic degree in economics/accounting/finance, such as a Master of Science in Engineering and Business Administration or equivalent
- Several years of documented experience in a similar role, within financial management and/or as a Controller
- Good documented knowledge of accounting and financial processes
- Strong documented accounting skills; you have built a solid understanding of financial flows and processes through practical experience
- Strong IT competence, in-depth knowledge of Excel as well as decision-making and follow-up systems. We work with Hypergene and Rillion
- Very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
Personal Attributes
To succeed in the role, you are analytical, structured, and meticulous, with the ability to see both details and the big picture. You work independently, solution-oriented, and proactively, take responsibility for your deliverables, and actively contribute to collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of financial work. You are unpretentious and accustomed to working in close dialogue with the operations.
You are communicative and pedagogical and have an easy time explaining financial connections in a clear and understandable way, even for people without an economic background. The role involves many contact surfaces, which requires good collaboration skills and a relationship-building approach.
It is important that you have an understanding of the whole and the ability to see how the economy affects the organization's short- and long-term goals, as well as an interest in operational development and actively contributing to goal achievement and improved profitability. You are accustomed to handling deadlines and working efficiently during intensive periods, such as during annual and monthly closings.
Meritorious
We would prefer that you have worked in an organization of equivalent size or larger, and that you have experience with a similar organizational structure.
Experience from a study association or other non-profit activity is meritorious, as is experience with operations with public funding and familiarity with working with grant financing.
