The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other things, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A key driving force at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the activity are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and hospital physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments on several program educations, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is approx. 400, of which approx. 100 are doctoral students, and there are in total over 850 active in the workforce. Job Description

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about experimental neuroscience and eager to contribute to high-quality research.

The ideal candidate will support ongoing projects involving neural recordings, circuit dissection, and behavioral analysis in rodent models.

You are expected to:

  • Participate in daily laboratory operations, including animal handling and care, preparation for experiments, and data collection.
  • Be involved in setting up and maintaining complex experimental equipment (e.g., electrophysiology rigs, imaging systems).
  • Collaborate with the team on experimental design and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to data processing and analysis pipelines (Matlab, Python, etc.) and assist in finalizing figures and documentation for reports and publications.

Qualifications

A successful candidate has a combination of the following:

  • Academic background in neuroscience, biology, biomedicine, engineering, physics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Previous practical laboratory experience (animal behavior, molecular biology, electrophysiology, image analysis, or similar techniques).
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative research team.
  • Experience with data analysis using Matlab, Python, or comparable tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
