Do you want to help develop the sustainable and attractive municipal environments of the future? We are now looking for an engaged traffic engineer/street engineer for Vara Municipality who wants to contribute to creating safe, accessible, and vibrant public spaces for our residents and businesses.

Here, you will have a varied role where you work both strategically and operationally – from planning and development to seeing your ideas come to life in our shared outdoor environment. You will become an important part of the Street and Park Department, where we together are responsible for ensuring our municipality is a pleasant and sustainable place to live and work.

The position is a fixed-term contract, but there are good opportunities for a longer-term employment.

Your role

As a traffic engineer/street engineer in Vara Municipality, you will have a broad and developing role with great opportunities to influence. You work both as a client and an investigator, driving issues within traffic, streets, and societal development.

You will, among other things:

  • Work with reinvestments, traffic measurements, and permits
  • Participate in the planning and development of streets and public environments
  • Contribute to citizen dialogues and have contact with residents and businesses
  • Collaborate with politicians, other departments, and external actors such as the Swedish Transport Administration
  • Act as an expert in matters concerning traffic, legislation, and urban planning
  • Be involved in the preparation of service opinions

The role involves many contact points where your communication skills are important. You need to be able to balance different interests and contribute to solutions that create value for both the operations and the municipality's residents.

Your knowledge and experience

We are looking for you who have:

  • A relevant university degree or equivalent experience assessed by the employer as equivalent
  • Experience from the construction industry, preferably as a client, project manager, or contractor
  • An interest in maintenance and development issues within streets and traffic
  • Good computer skills
  • A valid driver's license (Category B)

It is important that you:

  • Can work independently while having good cooperation skills
  • Have the ability to see the big picture but also pay attention to details
  • Are structured, driven, and able to prioritize your work effectively
  • Thrive in a politically governed organization

As a person, you are solution-oriented, receptive, and confident in your professional role. You have the courage to handle complex situations with multiple stakeholders and can explain different parts of the urban planning process in a pedagogical way. You have good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Your future workplace

The Street and Park Department in Vara Municipality has a broad area of responsibility – from winter road maintenance, asphalt planning, and road signs to the care of parks and green areas. Vara Municipality is in a development phase – with larger establishments and extensive expansion projects within both housing, infrastructure, and municipal properties. The Sector Society gathers the municipality's responsibility for planning, implementation, operation, and management of the physical environment. Here, you become part of an operation where collaboration, service, and development are in focus. We have close contact with municipal residents, businesses, and other parts of the organization, and together we create a clean, safe, and attractive municipality.

Here at Vara Municipality, you get engaged colleagues and managers, training, and development opportunities, as well as benefits in the form of a fitness allowance if you are a monthly employee.

All employees are also members of our Leisure Association, which among other things organizes exercise activities and other leisure and cultural activities; you get, among other things, discounts on certain events at Vara Concert Hall.

In Vara Municipality, we make each other better, and it is together with our ethical compass that we reach our common goals!
