Operations Engineer for PET Centre, Uppsala University Hospital

We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!

Our Operations

Do you want to work with advanced technology in an environment where research and medical innovation meet?

The PET Centre, within the Imaging and Functional Medical Centre at Uppsala University Hospital, performs high-tech diagnostics using positron emission tomography (PET). This involves injecting radioactively labeled substances into the patient and studying their distribution in the body using a PET camera. The radionuclides used are very short-lived, which places high demands on production and quality control. The PET Centre is bringing a new cyclotron facility into use this year, and your key task will be to ensure its continuous operation.

Your Role

As an Operations Engineer with us, you will be responsible for the ongoing operation of our cyclotron facility and its systems, including:

  • Basic maintenance and servicing of the cyclotron, hot cells, gas facilities, synthesis modules, and radioactive distribution systems to the production lab.
  • Participating in troubleshooting and acting as a contact person for several third-party suppliers critical to the operation of the cyclotron facility and other building-related systems.
  • Involvement in technical development projects, such as the construction of custom-built synthesis equipment. Basic skills in programming, as well as electrical and mechanical work, are considered meritorious.

Your Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering, engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, or equivalent.

Your Competencies

We are looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills and an open mind towards new technology and new ways of working. You are flexible and adaptable to new situations. You maintain a stable and calm demeanor, even in stressful environments. Strong collaboration skills are of utmost importance as the workplace is multidisciplinary. Good documentation skills are also essential. Previous experience with cyclotrons, radionuclides, and PET is considered an advantage.

What We Offer

Permanent full-time employment with a start date as agreed. A probationary period of up to 6 months may apply. We conduct ongoing interviews, so please submit your application as soon as possible. An appointment may be made before the application deadline. Here, you will receive benefits that make a difference; read more about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/ (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/)).

Uppsala County Council values the qualities that a balanced gender distribution and diversity bring to operations and welcomes applicants of all genders and with different backgrounds, abilities, and life experiences.

Uppsala County Council assigns all permanent staff based on the needs of the total defense. This entails no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.

Before making a hiring decision, checks of suspicion and criminal records will be conducted for all job seekers who, in the sought position, may work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care for children and youth, or compulsory care for substance abusers, areas covered by discretionary record extracts. This applies to all who will work in patient-facing roles, even if the tasks currently are not intended to primarily involve work with the aforementioned patient groups.

This recruitment is conducted entirely through Uppsala County Council, and we decline phone calls from recruitment agencies and advertising sales representatives.
