The County Administrative Board of Södermanland is looking for a Wildlife Case Officer to join the Rural Development and Wildlife unit.

The Rural Development and Wildlife unit is part of the Nature Department at the County Administrative Board of Södermanland County. Within the unit, we work with issues concerning rural development through support, advisory services, and competence development. We also have a wildlife and fisheries group that works with the regional management of large predators, ungulates, and fishery issues. Södermanland is a county with locally high populations of ungulates of several species, which requires active co-management in collaboration with other affected industries and interests.

Responsibilities

The position offers varied tasks within the County Administrative Board's work with general wildlife management, covering both ungulates and predators. The work involves processing and administering applications, for example regarding wildlife damage and protective hunting, as well as grants for damage prevention measures. Another task is to prepare written material, such as responses to consultations and information for meetings in the county's wildlife management delegation, where a reporting role may also occur.

The unit is driving an externally funded project on competence development and collaboration to reduce wildlife damage from ungulates; part of the responsibilities may involve working to advance this project. The position also handles preventive work to reduce wildlife damage within agriculture and forestry.

The work involves extensive external contact with the public, other authorities, organizations, and media, making collaboration and communication a significant part of the role. The position may also include some field work involving inventory, supervision, inspection, and information efforts related to large predators and large grazing birds. The work can occasionally involve a high pace, and evening work may occur. The content of the position may change over time, and other tasks within the County Administrative Board's area of operations may therefore arise.

Qualifications and Profile

We are looking for you who:

  • Have an academic education, such as in Agriculture, Biology, Forestry, or have experience that the County Administrative Board considers equivalent.
  • Have good knowledge in the field of wildlife management and inventory, primarily related to large predators but also ungulates.
  • Can communicate well in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
  • Have good computer skills.
  • Hold a valid driver's license (Category B).

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Experience working at the County Administrative Board or another state authority with case processing within wildlife management.
  • Experience working with inventory, supervision, and inspection of large predators.
  • Completed the education for inventory of large predators.
  • GIS knowledge.
  • Knowledge in communication and social media.

As a person, you are responsible, proactive, analytical, and goal- and result-oriented. You also have good cooperation skills and are unpretentious.

About the Position

The employment is a fixed-term contract until November 30, 2027, with a start date to be agreed upon.

All positions at the County Administrative Board may be subject to security clearance and emergency deployment depending on the nature of the assignment. A probationary period of six months may be applied.
