Within the Child and Education Administration, our approximately 3,000 employees meet with around 14,000 children and students at more than 100 preschools and schools across the municipality every day. Your new workplace

Sundsvall Culture School is part of the Child and Education Administration and offers fee-free education in music, visual arts, dance, drama/theater, circus, film, and animation. The activity is an important part of the municipality's work to strengthen children's and young people's right to culture, creative creation, and personal development. Approximately 45-50 employees, all with higher pedagogical education, work at the Culture School. The teaching takes place both as a voluntary elective activity and on assignment during the day at schools around the municipality, and in the evenings at the Culture School's premises in central Sundsvall. The Culture School is a dynamic and development-oriented workplace that strives to give children and young people good opportunities for cultural learning.

How you contribute in the role of string teacher

Sundsvall Culture School is looking for an engaged string teacher with a focus on cello, who can also teach double bass. You will become part of a collaborative work team where children's and young people's desire to develop through music is at the center. Teaching takes place both individually and in groups, with a focus on ensemble playing, joy of playing, and concerts. The position includes teaching in cello and double bass, as well as participation in projects and performances.

Teaching takes place both at schools during the day and at the Culture School's premises in central Sundsvall in the afternoons and evenings. Within the string teacher team, teaching within El Sistema is also conducted at one of the municipality's primary schools, and work in this area may be included in the position. An important part of the assignment is also to develop double bass teaching within the Culture School together with the other string teachers.

We work actively to provide our employees with good conditions and the right tools for teaching. At the Culture School, you will receive a service instrument, service phone, and an iPad or work computer.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for you who have:

• An artistic university education in cello with a pedagogical focus, or equivalent competence assessed by the employer as equivalent.
• Competence to teach double bass.
• Ability to inspire and adapt teaching based on students' different needs and prerequisites.
• A flexible and development-oriented working method with the ability to develop teaching and pedagogical methods based on the Culture School of the future.
• Ability to lead ensembles and orchestras at different levels.
• Experience of working within Culture School, primary school, and adapted primary school.
• Experience of cross-curricular collaborations.
• Good ability to work independently, structured, and in projects together with others, with experience of following up and evaluating pedagogical work.
• Good digital competence and experience in using digital tools in teaching.
• Valid driver's license (Category B).

Meritorious:

• Experience of working within El Sistema.
• Experience of building up and developing string activities.
• Ability to teach a broad spectrum of musical genres and styles, for example classical, folk music, pop/rock, or improvisation.

You easily build trusting relationships with both students and colleagues, and can adapt teaching based on the individual's and the group's needs.
