The Department of Civil, Environmental and Natural Resources Engineering at Luleå University of Technology conducts research and education within the mining, construction, and environmental fields. The research and education at the department have a strong experimental and applied profile with several large and well-equipped laboratories. The activities are quality-assured by our dedicated professors and senior lecturers in an exclusive and successful collaboration with industry and the public sector. 70% of our research is externally funded, and we have a well-developed international cooperation with universities on all continents. We consist of approximately 400 people with around 50 nationalities, including 180 doctoral students and over 50 professors.

The Division of Mining and Rock Construction Engineering at Luleå University of Technology has a broad focus area and covers research activities regarding fundamental knowledge for applied applications within mining and underground technology. The education and research in mining and rock engineering at Luleå University of Technology date back to 1971. In 2011, the Swebrec competence center, focusing on blasting technology, detonation, and fragmentation, became part of the rock engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

As a student assistant, you will belong to the Division of Mining and Rock Construction Engineering. You will primarily work together with Wilhelm Åberg on a research project investigating grouting. The tasks mainly involve participating in grouting mixtures laboratory sessions and independently performing simpler lab tests. Subsequent work involves collecting and compiling data as well as conducting minor analyses.

Qualifications

The student we are looking for must be enrolled in the Civil Engineering program in Road and Water Engineering and have completed at least 8 semesters. You must have knowledge within rock mechanics, infrastructure construction, and design skills. Knowledge in statistical methods, project work within research projects, and scientific methods is meritorious. Good knowledge of both written and spoken Swedish is a requirement as the project work is carried out within the framework of the Swedish Transport Administration. The applicant must be able to provide contact details for two reference persons upon request.

Conditions

Employment as a student assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 5. Only those admitted to education at the first or second cycle (undergraduate or advanced level) may be employed as student assistants (HEO Chapter 5 §10).

Hourly wage/compensation

The compensation is based on an agreed monthly salary.

Information

The position covers 50% of full-time employment, i.e., on average 2.5 days per week for 4 months, from September 1, 2026, to December 1, 2026, or as agreed. The workplace is in Luleå.

The workload may vary over time and as agreed, but the aim is to distribute it in a way that is compatible with studies at Luleå University of Technology.
