The Swedish Defence University is an internationally renowned institution within defence, crisis management and security. We offer a unique academic environment where civilian and military perspectives meet. We educate civilian and military leaders, experts and researchers who are to analyse and manage current and future crisis situations and security problems. The Swedish Defence University educates Sweden's officers and leads the academic development of the officer profession. We conduct research within law with a focus on operational law and international law, defence systems, military science, leadership and management, military history and political science.

The political science research at the Swedish Defence University analyses how security and insecurity are created, who security is for and how crises are prevented and managed – in all cases within a Swedish, European and global context. We explore threats, conflicts, decision-making processes, communication processes, identity construction and ethical dilemmas concerning the state, society and the individual, with a special focus on Sweden and the Nordic countries, the European Union, the United States, Russia and East Asia.

The purpose of our research and education is to contribute to a more complex and nuanced understanding of the world. Our researchers regularly participate with their expertise in national and international media, advise decision-makers, participate in commissioned training and work to increase knowledge in society on current issues.

The political science research at the Swedish Defence University can be divided into two overarching themes – security policy and crisis management – and a number of specialisations which organise researchers as well as doctoral students.

Job Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities involve the systematisation and analysis of previous research, independent writing work and other research-related tasks, including administration. You are expected to be active in our network regarding civilian defence, crisis management and administration.

Who are you?

The applicant must have at least a bachelor's degree in political science or related subjects. Knowledge of research on civilian defence, crisis management and administration is meritorious. You must have very good written communication skills in Swedish and English, and be meticulous and independent.

Employment

The employment is a fixed-term position for one year. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

An employment at the Swedish Defence University may involve a security clearance according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

The employment may also involve war posting. If you are already war-posted in your current employment at an authority and your competence is needed in the Swedish Defence University's war organisation, a negotiation will take place between the relevant authority and the Swedish Defence University regarding where you should be posted.
