About Us

The Environmental and Sustainability Section is part of the Swedish Armed Forces' Infrastructure Division, under the Support Unit of the Defense Staff at the Headquarters. Our task is to serve as the Swedish Armed Forces' knowledge center at the strategic level within the environmental dimension of sustainability. We support the entire organization through various directives and guidelines, as well as participating in consultation processes, investigations, and reporting.

Main Responsibilities

You will work with environmental issues at a strategic level in advisory, supportive, and investigative functions, with a special focus on issues related to climate impact. Part of the work as a sustainability strategist involves environmental strategic analyses to assess how different scenarios and assumptions affect the Swedish Armed Forces' operations. You will participate in various projects and studies related to the Swedish Armed Forces' climate impact. The duties also include representing the Swedish Armed Forces in national and international cooperation groups. Your previous experience with energy consumption and fuel issues will be particularly emphasized.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Relevant academic degree in environmental or technical fields as assessed by the employer
  • A few years of current and relevant work experience in environmental work, preferably within climate issues
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both in speech and writing

Personal Attributes

The role involves influencing the Swedish Armed Forces' strategic work. This requires you to have high integrity. You are meticulous and non-hierarchical, which also means you are a good team player accustomed to collaborating with others and have a well-developed communicative ability. You have the ability to drive issues independently, are flexible, and can handle temporary peaks in workload without becoming stressed.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal attributes and suitability.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working at a government agency
  • Experience with the Swedish Armed Forces' operations
  • Experience working with energy issues and fuels
  • Experience working with environmental management systems
  • Experience working within the defense sector
  • Valid Class B driver's license

Other Information

Employment Type: Permanent. The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probationary period for those not already employed by the agency.

The Headquarters houses the Supreme Commander and the Director General. The Headquarters has approximately 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. As of 2023-01-01, the Headquarters consists of the Defense Staff, the Operations Command, the Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the Headquarters Staff Division and independent oversight units.

An employment with us involves placement in a security classification. Swedish citizenship is usually required. A security investigation with register check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. Employment entails an obligation to be war-placed. The employment also includes an obligation to serve abroad. The meaning of this varies depending on the type of position. A CV and cover letter must be attached to the application for employment.
