The Department of Biology Education (IBG) at Uppsala University (https://www.ibg.uu.se) coordinates and administers all undergraduate education within the Biology Section. The Biology Section comprises four departments (https://www.biologi.uu.se).

The department's overarching goal is to offer a broad range of courses and educational programs in biology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics at a high international level with excellent pedagogical quality. The department has a broad scope of activities and is located on two campuses: the Evolutionary Biology Centre and the Biomedical Centre. Our educational environment is highly international, with students and a network of teachers from most parts of the world. The department has approximately 30 employees and 1,300 students. IBG is now looking for a student who is studying the Bachelor's Programme in Biology/Molecular Biology, or who has completed this bachelor's programme and is now studying a Master's programme in Biology at Uppsala University, and who is interested in working as a student assistant (student amanuens) at the Department of Biology Education.

Responsibilities

As a YLA Assistant, you will work on tasks aimed at strengthening the connection to working life (YLA) within the biology education. The role involves contacting alumni working outside academia to invite them as speakers to YLA meetings, hosting these meetings, taking attendance, and maintaining active communication with the course coordinator and programme director to plan future meetings in good time. It is a varied job where you are expected to take the initiative. You will interact with many different people from various professional fields. The position is 7% during the period from September to May. The work is flexible, and you can largely manage your own schedule, with the exception of the scheduled YLA events.

Qualifications

The position of assistant is regulated by the Higher Education Ordinance (HF 5:10). To be employed as an assistant, you must be admitted to undergraduate or advanced level studies in Biology/Molecular Biology. We are looking for you with previous experience in external communication within and outside academia, as well as experience in organizing events. You must have excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written.

We see that you, as a candidate, are structured, outgoing, and good at working both independently and in a team. Furthermore, you are driven, self-motivated, and responsible.

Desirable/Additional Merits

Currently in the first or second year of the Bachelor's programme.

About the Position

The employment is fixed-term according to HF Chapter 5, Section 12, until 2027-05-31. The extent is 7%. Start date 2026-09-01 as agreed. Location: Uppsala.
