About the Home Guard

The Home Guard combat force (SK Hv) operates throughout Sweden and constitutes nearly half of the Swedish Armed Forces' personnel. The combat force consists of both employed staff and Home Guard soldiers. The force is experiencing strong growth. Today, there are approximately 800 permanent employees and about 22,500 Home Guard soldiers – a number that is to increase to 26,000 by 2030.

HR is part of the National Home Guard Staff, which serves as the chief's staff for leading, directing, and developing unit production within the combat force. The National Home Guard Staff consists of a planning department, an execution department, a support department, and a staff section. HR belongs to the support department, which comprises three sections: the HR section, the security and management system section, and the logistics section. The HR section consists of approximately ten employees, each with their own areas of responsibility while simultaneously supporting colleagues in the team.

Main Responsibilities

The role of Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator involves working broadly within the occupational health and safety field and serving as a consultative support to managers and employees. You are responsible for cohesion in the combat force's work on occupational health and safety issues and collaborate regularly with the rest of the Swedish Armed Forces, the safety organization, other occupational health and safety coordinators, and occupational health services.

You coordinate, plan, and develop the combat force's systematic occupational health and safety work, as well as monitor occupational health and safety risks for both employed staff and Home Guard soldiers. The role also includes handling deviations and developing policy documents within the occupational health and safety field. Responsibility for the combat force's gender equality issues is included until a specific position is established.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Follow the organization's rules and regulations within the occupational health and safety field
  • Lead and coordinate training within occupational health and safety
  • Prepare materials for the central occupational health and safety committee
  • Participate in or lead investigations of accidents, near-misses, ill health, and work-related injuries
  • Participate in or lead occupational health and safety mapping within the combat force and the National Home Guard Staff
  • Participate in or lead investigations of unwelcome behavior, harassment, and reprisals
  • Participate in or lead other assignments within the combat force and the staff

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Relevant university education, preferably within occupational health and safety/HR/behavioral science, or other education combined with work experience that the employer deems equivalent
  • Current and relevant work experience in qualified occupational health and safety work from a larger organization, preferably a public authority
  • Relevant knowledge of legislation related to occupational health and safety (the Work Environment Act, the Work Environment Ordinance, and other regulations)
  • Good knowledge of MS Office
  • Very good knowledge of Swedish with high linguistic competence in both speech and writing

The Supreme Headquarters houses the Supreme Commander and the Director General. The Headquarters has approximately 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. From 2023-01-01, the Headquarters consists of the Defence Staff, the Operations Command, the Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the Headquarters Staff Department and independent supervision units.

An employment with us involves placement in a security classification. Swedish citizenship is usually required.
