The Department of Culture and Aesthetics (IKE) is a large and dynamic department within the Faculty of Humanities, with approximately 120 employees, including around fifty doctoral students across five subjects.
Art History at Stockholm University is part of the Department of Culture and Aesthetics, alongside the subjects of History of Ideas, Literary Studies, Musicology, Theatre Studies, Curating, and Cultural Heritage Studies. The department offers a four-year doctoral programme in Art History. Research in Art History covers a broad spectrum ranging from early modern to modern and contemporary art, from design, architecture, and theory to cultural heritage studies and curating. In all these areas, Art History has strong connections with museums, art galleries, authorities, and other institutions and actors in the surrounding society. Consequently, the Department of Culture and Aesthetics offers one of the broadest research environments for Art History in Sweden.

Project Description
We are looking for a junior researcher who will work to strengthen the local research environment at the department by developing an independent research project and publishing its results. The successful candidate will have an initial meeting with the research coordinator to outline a plan for the work. The subject of Art History offers mentorship through senior researchers during the employment period. The aim of the employment is to create conditions for further career development for the successful candidate and to secure future competence supply for the subject.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include writing a scientific article for a high-ranking international journal in the field of Art History, actively participating in the Advanced Seminar in Art History and the Interdisciplinary Seminar at IKE, and presenting the own project on one occasion during the employment period.
Qualifications
A researcher is employed primarily for research and must hold a PhD.
Selection Criteria
We are looking for you with a PhD in Art History or related subjects.
When making the appointment, special weight will be attached to scientific proficiency, publications, and the intended publication channel for the research to be conducted at Stockholm University. Special weight will also be attached to personal suitability to carry out the tasks within the specified time, which is why providing contact details for referees in the application is of great importance.
About the Employment
The employment is fixed-term and is for half-time (50%) for four months from 1 September to 31 December 2026.
