The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on, among other things, cancer, genetic and autoimmune diseases. A central idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby promote closer collaboration between medical research and healthcare. Research is conducted within six research programs: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration, and vascular biology. Parts of the activity are also integrated with the departments of oncology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology, clinical pathology, and medical physics at Uppsala University Hospital. The department has teaching assignments on several program educations, standalone courses, and international master's programs within the Faculty of Medicine. The department has a turnover of approximately 550 million SEK, of which about two-thirds are external research grants. The number of employees is approximately 400, of which about 100 are doctoral students, and there are in total over 850 active members in the workforce. • Conduct independent research on the development and application of a genetic platform in zebrafish to optimize genetic tools for disease treatment.
  • Design, perform, and analyze experiments involving prime editing, nanobody engineering, and the development of synthetic enhancers.
  • Generate and maintain transgenic and knock-in lines in zebrafish for library-based screening.
  • Perform advanced molecular biological, genome editing, and imaging techniques to study cardiovascular phenotypes.
  • Collaborate closely with the group leader and other team members, and contribute to project planning, data interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
  • Present research results at lab meetings, national, and international conferences.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide guidance to junior researchers and students in the lab.
  • Apply for funding in Sweden and internationally.

Qualifications

  • PhD in molecular biology, developmental biology, cardiovascular biology, biotechnology, or a related field, completed before the start of employment.
  • Documented experience with genome editing techniques (e.g., CRISPR/Cas systems, prime editing, knock-in strategies).
  • Strong skills in molecular cloning, PCR-based genotyping, and construct design.
  • Experience with zebrafish or other vertebrate model organisms.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written.

Desirable/Additional Qualifications

  • Publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals relevant to the position.
  • Experience with zebrafish microinjection, transgenics, and animal husbandry.
  • Expertise in live imaging, confocal microscopy, FACS, or high-throughput screening.
  • Previous work with cardiovascular biology or muscle-related genetic diseases.
  • Skills in protein technology, nanobody development, or synthetic biology.
  • Knowledge of Swedish legislation and ethics, animal welfare and the 3Rs, and experimental animal science for zebrafish (FELASA or equivalent).
  • Experience in supervising students and contributing to collaborative projects.
  • A creative and proactive attitude, with enthusiasm for method development and innovation.
