At Ö-varvet, we develop and build ships in close collaboration with our customers. One of our departments is located on Hönö, where we are currently in the middle of an exciting project together with the Swedish Association for Life-saving (Svenska Sjöräddningssällskapet) to develop new lifeboats. This is where your journey will start, but over time you will also work on other projects with a similar technical level and requirements, for example with the Swedish Armed Forces.

We are now looking for a designer who wants to work close to reality – not just behind a screen. We are primarily looking for you who have experience from marine environments and have a good understanding of how ships and marine systems are constructed.

At present, the position is located on Hönö, where we sit in fantastic premises. You will become part of a tight-knit group of approximately 30 employees, where the design group consists of 8 people. We have short decision-making paths and close collaboration with production, which allows us to take ideas all the way to working solutions and see them tested in reality. Over time, you will also work on other projects and environments within our operations.

Responsibilities

In this role, you are involved throughout the entire development chain from the initial idea to the finished solution. It is not just about drawing, but also about ensuring that what you produce works in practice.

You will work with among other things:

  • Development and optimization of ships and marine systems
  • Creating practically functional solutions
  • Preliminary calculations and verification of constructions
  • The entire process from sketch to finished product

With us, the step from idea to reality is short. It is not uncommon that something you draw in the morning can be tested in production already the same day.

What we offer

With us, you get to work close to production and be involved in the entire chain. This gives a clear connection between your ideas and what is actually built. You get the opportunity to test and develop your solutions continuously. The projects vary and maintain a high technical level.

We are looking for you with technical experience and work-life experience of CAD, as well as a strong technical interest and a desire to see things work in practice. Marine experience is meritorious and allows you to get into the work faster – this can be from working life, studies, or personal interest, for example by having yourself tinkered with and tested things on your leisure boat.

You have:

  • Post-secondary education in construction, such as mechanical engineering, marine technology, or naval architecture
  • Experience with CAD and taking constructions from idea to finished solution
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English

As a person, you are driven, curious, and have a desire to test and develop. You thrive on combining theory and practice, and are motivated by seeing your solutions work in reality.

More about the position and application

One of our strengths is that we work close to production, and therefore the work takes place on-site. This means you get to be close to reality, jump into the boats, double-check solutions, and see directly how what you produce works – something that is also one of the most fun parts of the job.

For questions about the position, you are warmly welcome to contact Arvid Dyvermark on phone 031-7560290. Apply by clicking "apply now" and fill in the form where you will answer selection questions relevant to the position. If you also want to attach your CV, that is fine but not mandatory. In this recruitment, we use psychometric tests as part of the selection. We look forward to your application!

Ö-varvet is a new-building and repair/service shipyard that performs dry-docking, repair/service, conversion, new-building, and marine electronics on Öckerö. Our mechanical production takes place on Hönö where we perform, for example, manufacturing of winches as well as steel and aluminum constructions.

We are located in a fantastic environment out on Öckerö. If you live out on the islands, you surely know how to get here, but getting to us from the city is also easy. The ferries depart every tenth minute from Lilla Varholmen and the journey takes only 12 minutes. Once across, it is only a couple of kilometers to the Shipyard, and there are both bus connections and a nice bike path.

Ö-Varvet is part of Öckeröborgen.
