We are seeking a substitute Associate Professor in Human Rights at 80% for the period from 2026-08-17 or as soon as possible until 2027-06-30 at the Department of Human Rights, Faculty of Humanities.

About the workplace

The position is located at the Department of Human Rights at the Department of History. The Department of History is located at LUX in central Lund, close to research libraries, IT support, the Humanities Laboratory, cafes, dining halls, etc. The Department of History offers several popular courses and programs at bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels, and is also responsible for the National Graduate School in Historical Studies. We offer a vital and large teaching and research environment with active pedagogical development work. At the department, we work extensively in teaching teams, and as an associate professor, you will receive support from colleagues, the director of studies, and study advisors. The department cares about a good working environment with recurring joint staff and teacher meetings, joint coffee breaks, and an annual psychosocial survey.

Tasks and areas of responsibility

The position primarily involves teaching on the bachelor's program in Human Rights at the Department of Human Rights at the Department of History. You will teach a range of different courses, including courses on human rights and civil society, human rights, discrimination and equal treatment, as well as method and theory. You will also supervise and examine essays in the third and sixth terms of the program. Some teaching or examination on the international master's program may also be relevant. Space for pedagogical training and development work is provided within the position. All teaching takes place on-site.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

  • Advanced level degree in a relevant social science or humanities subject, or that you have acquired equivalent knowledge in another way and have other relevant competence.
  • Good pedagogical ability.
  • Experience of teaching and supervision in the university subject of human rights or equivalent relevant to the job's tasks.
  • Good ability to collaborate and willingness to work together in teaching teams.
  • Good language skills in Swedish and English.
  • Higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks.

Merits for employment are:

  • Experience of research relevant to the teaching focus of the employment.

The position is a substitute position at 80% from 2026-08-17, or as soon as possible by agreement, until 2027-06-30.

The Faculties of Humanities and Theology have eight departments and conduct a large and varied activity in research and education. We have approximately 700 employees and approximately 4,000 full-time students.

About the Department of History

The Department of History is one of eight departments at the Faculties of Humanities and Theology. It is a large department with three divisions: the Division of History, the Division of Human Rights, and the Centre for East and Southeast Asian Studies. There are around 100 teachers and researchers here. Teaching within the department is conducted primarily within the framework of bachelor's programs in history and human rights, master's programs in history, and international master's programs in human rights and Asian studies. The department also has a large doctoral education with PhD students in history, human rights, and East and Southeast Asian studies, among others through a graduate school in historical studies.
