About the workplace

The postdoctoral researcher will join the dynamic Laboratory for Regenerative Immunology. The laboratory currently consists of three PhD students, three postdocs, one master's student, and one animal technician. The laboratory is located within the Department of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy (MMGT) at the Biomedical Centre (BMC).

MMGT houses laboratories with a range of complementary expertise in stem cell biology and gene editing. More information about the laboratory can be found at leighnd.github.io.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will be responsible for leading and driving a project aimed at understanding the relationship between the immune system and regeneration. This involves working with axolotls (Pleurodeles waltl). More specifically, you will be tasked with developing axolotls with gene knockouts that enable the characterization of the axolotl's immune system. The work aims to map the role of adaptive immune cells in regeneration. This involves characterizing immune cells and regenerative tissue using third-generation sequencing methods. You will be responsible for compiling results into clear diagrams, preparing and delivering oral presentations, writing manuscripts, and supervising students. You are expected to learn the basics of R or Python to create diagrams and analyze data.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • In-depth knowledge of immunology, including autoimmunity
  • You have experience working with axolotls or other salamander species.
  • You have documented expertise in generating transgenic or knockout animal lines using CRISPR, Tol2, or similar techniques
  • You hold a PhD in immunology, molecular biology, or equivalent
  • Excellent written and spoken English

Other information

This is a full-time, fixed-term position according to SÄVA for 12 months.

The position starts on June 1, 2026, or by agreement.
