The Department of Applied Physics and Electronics offers teaching at all levels and provides courses in mechanical engineering, electronics/computer engineering, energy technology, construction engineering, and media technology. We are currently seeking one to two teaching assistants (amanuenses) in mechanical engineering.

About the Position

The position corresponds to 10 – 20% of a full-time workload for 9 months, starting August 24, 2026, or by mutual agreement. The position must be performed in parallel with studies, and the workload may vary during the term. The application deadline is April 22, 2026.

Responsibilities

As a teaching assistant, you will contribute to teaching by assisting with calculation exercises and laboratory sessions, as well as supervising students. You will also participate in the assessment of laboratory reports, assignments, and quizzes.

Part of the role involves analyzing and evaluating courses based on collected student feedback and other data, as well as proposing improvement measures to develop teaching quality.

The role also includes duties as a contact and quality assistant. This entails collaborating with the program manager to plan and carry out various activities, such as thesis fairs, study visits, and career days targeted at both university students and high school students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position, you must be admitted to a degree program at a basic or advanced level at a university or university college.

Qualifications

Applicants for the teaching assistant position in mechanical engineering must be active second-year students on the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program in mechanical engineering at Umeå University. Furthermore, you should possess good social skills and an interest in teaching and educational matters. Great importance will be attached to personal attributes. Selection among applicants will be based on merits, suitability, and experience of similar tasks.

It is an advantage if you have practical experience of additive manufacturing and workshop operations, such as turning, milling, or similar.
