The National Museums of Maritime, Transport and Defence History work with cultural heritage with the vision of broadening people's worldview through knowledge, experiences, and engagement. We are a museum authority that operates and develops the Maritime Museum, the Museum of Naval History, the Vasa Museum, Vrak-Museum of Wrecks, and the Railway Museum. As of January 1, 2026, the defence history museums, the Army Museum and the Air Force Museum, are also part of the authority.

About the position
In the spring of 2026, the Transport History Collections Unit needs temporary reinforcement with new colleagues. As a museum assistant, you will work to make the collection of railway vehicles accessible through digitization and practical work in the warehouse. Tasks include some handling of museum vehicles, photography, and image editing. Furthermore, the role involves editing and quality assurance of records in the collection database Primus and publishing material on DigitaltMuseum, ensuring the collections become publicly accessible and searchable. Work is planned and prioritized in close dialogue with the unit's curators.
The position involves a combination of independent work and collaboration within the unit. Other common tasks may also be included.
Travel is required, as well as work in the authority's warehouses in Gävle, Eskilstuna, Arboga, and Rosersberg.
Your competence and experience
Requirements
- Experience with digitization work
- Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing
- Class B driver's license
- Good computer skills and the ability to quickly learn new systems and work tools
Merits
- Education or knowledge in history
- Experience working in the collection database Primus
- Experience handling collections with a technical or transport history focus
- Forklift license
- Skills in scanning, photography, and image editing

More about us
The position is located at the Transport History Collections Unit, which is part of the Collections and Archives Department. The unit's mission is to develop, preserve, and make the museum's collections of objects, photos, archives, and vehicles accessible, as well as to deepen and disseminate knowledge about them. Currently, five curators specializing in railway objects work at the unit.
Employment
Fixed-term employment, full-time from May to December 2026. The possibility of extension during 2027 may become relevant.
