The National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) is the national authority for planning, construction, and housing. We aim to contribute to a sustainable society with good housing in vibrant environments. Our focus includes issues related to the built environment, management of land and water areas, physical planning, construction and management of buildings, housing, and housing finance. Since July 2025, Boverket also serves as the preparedness authority within the preparedness sector for industry, construction, and trade.

Boverket has its headquarters in Karlskrona, with a smaller office in Malmö. Today, approximately 240 people work at the authority, including architects, civil engineers, economists, lawyers, communicators, planners, and social scientists.

Your role with us

Are you passionate about making maps and geodata understandable – and using them to develop society?

As a GIS expert at Boverket, you will support the entire authority with geographical data and analyses, both in everyday smaller tasks and in larger, strategic assignments. You will work independently and drive your areas of responsibility forward – sometimes as a subject matter expert in projects, and sometimes as a project manager for assignments and investigations.

Your responsibilities include:

• providing qualified GIS support to colleagues across different parts of the authority
• participating in and sometimes leading internal and external projects
• developing guidelines, working methods, and solutions for how geographical information can be utilized
• identifying new opportunities where geodata can make a difference for the organization.

You will become part of Boverket's GIS team, collaborating both with team colleagues and others within Boverket. You are expected to take initiative, drive issues, and shape working methods together with your colleagues and the rest of the organization.

Your competence profile

We are looking for someone with several years of current experience in GIS and geodata management, with strong competence in ArcGIS. You should be confident in working with analyses, visualizations, and publishing geographical information.

You should have a relevant academic education with a focus on geographic information technology, such as a civil engineer in surveying, urban planning, or a GIS engineering degree. Alternatively, you may have another academic education combined with experience that Boverket deems equivalent.

You should have GIS experience from a municipality, authority, or other organization working with public GIS services and various GIS software, including open-source solutions. Experience in project management, or an interest in leading assignments and projects, is a plus.

As a person, you are driven and proactive – you see what needs to be done and take the initiative without being asked. You work independently and structured, planning your work and following up to ensure assignments are completed on time and with high quality. At the same time, you are communicative and pedagogical; you can explain complex GIS issues in a simple and understandable way, without getting stuck in unnecessary details. You are attentive and collaborative, thriving in dialogue with the organization, where you view service to colleagues as a natural part of the role. You are also humble and willing to share your expertise, whether it concerns smaller everyday questions or more extensive assignments.

The position

The position is a permanent employment at the headquarters in Karlskrona. Start date according to agreement. At Boverket's new headquarters, you will work in a state-of-the-art workplace that promotes an activity-based working style, community, and a good work environment. Boverket also offers the possibility for employees to agree on remote work up to 49% of working hours, when and provided that the tasks allow it. Depending on how the assignment develops, the position may eventually include preparedness duties, which would require a security clearance according to current regulations.
