Join the National Heritage Board – The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities Library

The National Heritage Board (Riksantikvarieämbetet) is the Swedish authority for cultural heritage issues. We work to ensure that cultural environments, cultural landscapes, cultural objects, and museums are preserved, used, and developed. Our mission is guided by the government's goals for cultural policy and state cultural heritage work. Our operations are located in Visby, Stockholm, and Tumba, and we also run public activities at the visitor site Glimmingehus. We employ approximately 250 people.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities Library is a national specialist library in the field of cultural heritage and serves as a central knowledge resource for the National Heritage Board. We offer both extensive physical collections and a growing digital offering to users across the country.

Our focus areas include archaeology, cultural heritage conservation, medieval art and architecture, museology, and numismatics. Our primary users are researchers, students, and professionals, but the library is open to everyone. We actively work to reach target groups that can benefit from our collections and services.

The library has eleven permanent staff members and will, from April 1, 2026, be part of the newly formed Department of Cultural Heritage Science. Together with the authority's archives, we are located in beautiful historic premises on Östermalm in Stockholm.
