About Us

The libraries in Solna have many visitors every day.

Solna City Library consists of several units, the library in Solna center, the library in Bergshamra, the school and public library at Ulriksdal School, and our mobile bike library. 24 people work at Solna City Library, and our mission is to provide our visitors with the best possible library service based on governing documents and assignments in the city's library plan.

We focus on job satisfaction and making the most of our employees' ideas. Solna City Library is an HBTQI-certified library and also a Romani reading ambassador. We prioritize collaboration with other units in the city.

What Does the Job Involve?

At Solna City Library, we work in an all-round manner. Each person has their focus area but works from a holistic perspective on the operations. Therefore, you should enjoy working in an organization where the staff is not divided into categories in the traditional sense. We all help each other fulfill the assignments we have, so it is important that you are willing to take on the tasks that arise.

The position will be located at the library in Bergshamra and the library in Solna center. The libraries receive many visits from preschools and schools in the area, and we have a wide range of program activities for children, young people, and adults. You will be part of one of three development groups. The job includes promoting reading activities focused on youth, such as book talks, holiday activities, and library tours. There are also great opportunities to further develop programs and reading promotion activities for the target group of children and young people.

Work with reading promotion activities for individuals with disabilities and those with a native language other than Swedish is also included. All employees at the libraries in Solna participate in and contribute to our recurring reading promotion activities, a work you are expected to contribute to and actively participate in.

The role of librarian also involves working at the library's reception and information desks, media work such as the intake of media, and subject responsibility for several departments.

Note: Evening and weekend work according to schedule is included.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are looking for someone who has:

• a degree in library and information science or equivalent academic qualification
• experience in public library work and also in children's and youth activities at public libraries
• experience in promoting reading for prioritized target groups
• experience in managing projects in various forms
• good knowledge of IT and social media.

We are looking for someone who is inventive and creative, who brings their own ideas that can be put into practice. With your ability and willingness to collaborate, you easily make new contacts and contribute to good meetings with the library's visitors. To thrive in the role, you should be comfortable arranging and conducting activities and events for larger and smaller groups. You enjoy working with participation and strive for a relationship-building approach where the operations are shaped in collaboration with the target group. Since the position includes regular outreach work, you also see opportunities to work outside the library space.

You are curious and aware of your surroundings, want to further develop the operations and learn new things. Furthermore, you are communicative and have a pedagogical approach and enjoy meeting children of different ages. You find it particularly fun to work with young people and have a strong knowledge and interest in literature and other cultural expressions for both young people and other prioritized target groups.
