We are seeking a Leisure-Time Teacher for Sylteskolan – Adapted Primary School

We are proud of Trollhättan City's over 5,000 employees, who every day make a positive difference in the lives of our residents and contribute to developing the city's sustainability and vitality. We are driven and motivated by the guiding words: Courage, Participation, Innovation, and Action. Here, there is an exciting development where you can help make our city even better.

About the Organization

Sylteskolan is a school for grades F-9, offering both regular primary education and adapted primary education. The adapted primary school in Trollhättan City is entering an exciting phase that will involve the development and expansion of operations with a clear focus on school development and increased quality throughout the student's entire school day.

At Sylteskolan, we work based on a shared holistic view, value system, and professional approach with the goal of creating safe learning environments and strong leadership in teaching. Clear routines, structure, and adaptation based on students' needs are guiding stars in our operations. We view diversity as an asset and inclusion as a given. Our teaching groups represent many different nationalities, and we teach students based on various curricula. Our ambition is to continuously develop ourselves and our operations with the goal of increasing students' goal achievement – both academically and socially, as far as possible.

In the adapted primary school, we have students studying both subjects and subject areas. The school also offers leisure-time activities and short-term supervision. The student's entire school day is important for creating security, a sense of coherence, and a meaningful leisure time.

The leisure-time center and short-term supervision operations at the adapted primary school are in an expansive development phase; therefore, we are strengthening our team with leisure-time teachers. We are specifically looking for someone with strong leadership skills who wants to contribute to developing the operations by driving systematic quality work and leading organizational work in close collaboration with the principal and colleagues.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a qualified leisure-time teacher who wants to contribute with both pedagogical and organizational leadership. You will lead the planning and implementation of pedagogical activities for our students during leisure time and short-term supervision. The assignment also includes contributing to the development of the leisure-time center by creating structure, following up on operations, and driving improvement work together with colleagues and management. You will advocate for high quality and ensure the holistic learning of students both at the leisure-time center and in school.

Collaboration with teachers and student support staff regarding students' learning, participation, and influence is of utmost importance for our students' development. A portion of working hours may be spent in the school, either as a resource teacher or in a specific subject.

You should be well-versed in regulatory documents and feel secure in your professional role. It is an advantage if you have experience and competence in the area of disabilities and previous experience working in adapted primary schools. Knowledge/training in low-arousal approaches and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) is an asset. You put the student at the center and have high expectations for both the operations and your own professional mission.

It is important that you have a commitment and a calm, patient approach to meet students in various situations that may arise. As a person, you are independent, flexible, and have a professional approach towards students, guardians, colleagues, and others you meet in your professional role. You are attentive, creative, and quality-conscious, working in a structured and systematic manner. You have a good ability to lead work within the team, create consensus, and contribute to clear communication in daily life. Since collaboration between the leisure-time center and the school is central, high demands are placed on collaboration skills, responsibility, and clarity.

The assignment also includes:

  • Contributing to the development and coordination of routines and working methods in the leisure-time center/short-term supervision
  • Driving follow-up, analysis, and improvement measures within the framework of SKA (Systematic Quality Work)
  • Being a clear pedagogical leader and creating consensus regarding approach, structures, and learning environment
  • Collaborating with the school and student health services to ensure holistic quality in the student's entire school day

What You Can Expect from the Position

  • You will participate in and drive development work at the leisure-time center and short-term supervision
  • You will join a school where the student is at the center
  • You will have a principal who is genuinely interested in special education
  • You will participate in an environment where the principal, special education teacher, pedagogues, and student support staff work together around the student to create a good learning environment that stimulates learning
  • Be prepared for lots of laughter
  • Build great relationships with colleagues
