Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation, and Pain Center
We are Akademiska Sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Here, something is always happening – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. With us, you will experience both challenging trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. Welcome to apply!
Our Operations
The Department of Geriatrics, Rehabilitation Medicine, and Pain Center is characterized by multidisciplinary teams, which we are very proud of. Our department has a broad mandate where working is meaningful, exciting, and developmental. There are excellent opportunities to participate in development work and research; we translate new knowledge into care.
Within the geriatrics section, we provide highly specialized geriatric care for the elderly patient group. Geriatrics consists of three inpatient wards and a memory and geriatrics outpatient clinic.
Memory and Geriatrics Outpatient Clinic
The Memory and Geriatrics Outpatient Clinic is a geriatric outpatient clinic with three focuses.
We provide day and home rehabilitation for geriatric patients, primarily those with stroke, Parkinson's disease, or osteoporosis, but patient groups may expand as outpatient care is expected to play a more significant role in the future. Here, the work is based on the multidisciplinary team where our health professions play a central role in rehabilitation. We have a multiprofessional team collaborating around the patient.
We are a specialist clinic for the investigation and follow-up of individuals with suspected or diagnosed cognitive disorders. Patients are referred to us.
The third pillar is research. We conduct clinical drug trials, investigator-initiated academic studies, and quality registry studies, primarily within dementia diseases, but upcoming studies will also include other diseases.
Your Assignment
We need to strengthen our team with an occupational therapist and are now looking for you to become our new colleague. The foundation of our work is the multiprofessional team, based on a holistic view of the patient.
In day and home rehabilitation, the occupational therapist participates in referral assessments and team conferences together with the rest of the team and plans the patients' rehabilitation.
In home rehabilitation, the occupational therapist and physiotherapist usually visit the patient at home during new visits to assess rehabilitation needs after discharge from the hospital. The occupational therapist assesses hand function, need for assistive devices, and need for activity training. Based on these results, an individual rehabilitation period is planned in consultation with the patient.
In day rehabilitation, the occupational therapist participates in team follow-ups after stroke and provides individual and group training for people who have had a stroke, as well as groups for people with Parkinson's.
At the memory clinic, the occupational therapist is part of the team and contributes to investigations regarding cognitive disorders through activity assessments and at information sessions for relatives.
In collaboration with doctors, the occupational therapist performs driving ability tests for patients who have had a stroke or have early-stage dementia.
If interested, there is an opportunity to take on a role in the research conducted at the clinic, in the form of various rating scales.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for a licensed occupational therapist, preferably with a few years of experience from clinical work within neurology and/or knowledge of cognition, as well as experience of team work. Experience from home healthcare / rehabilitation is considered an asset. You should have a genuine interest in the elderly patient. If you are newly educated but find this interesting, you are of course welcome to apply.
The work involves close contact with patients and relatives, which requires good treatment, flexibility, and good collaboration skills. You have the ability to prioritize and create structure among your various tasks. Since we have different parts at our clinic, there is an opportunity for varied work if desired. We work systematically to improve operations, so if you want to influence and come with good ideas, we view that positively.
In our recruitment, we will place great emphasis on personal suitability. A B-class driver's license is required.
With us, you will get a fun and varied job together with wonderful colleagues; welcome to apply!

Region Uppsala assigns all permanent staff to military service based on the needs of the total defense. This implies no obligations for the individual employee in peacetime but is solely a planning measure.
Before a decision on employment, a check of the suspicion and criminal record registers is carried out for all job applicants who, in the sought employment, may come to work within psychiatric care, habilitation, care of children and youth, or compulsory care of addicts, areas covered by optional registry extracts. This thus applies to all who will work close to patients, even if the current tasks are not intended to mainly include work with the above-mentioned patient groups.
