Department of Blood and Tumor Diseases

We are Uppsala University Hospital – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a regional hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer care to two million people in Central Sweden. There is always something happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother is operated on, a colleague is celebrated as a hero. With us, you will experience both tough challenges and fantastic events, in a strong community with colleagues. See parts of our reality in our photo exhibition; akademiskafotoutstallning.se (http://akademiskafotoutstallning.se). Welcome with your application!

Our Operations

The highly specialized cancer care at Uppsala University Hospital is one of the best in the country. The pace is high, the care is complex, and it involves a range of special competencies. Our goal is to be nationally and internationally leading in care, research, and education in the field of cancer, and we are certified as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. Our work is characterized by care for both the patient and each other, and we work long-term and strategically with various forms of competence development. Within blood and tumor diseases, there are five sections, and we are approximately 400 employees.

The Clinical Research and Development Unit (KFUE) is a department within the area of blood and tumor diseases at Uppsala University Hospital. KFUE has contributed to clinical research in oncology since 2000 and currently has about thirty employees (research nurses, research assistants, project managers, administrators, economists, department heads, and medically responsible doctors). Today, about 200 clinical studies are conducted in the field of blood and tumor diseases, both from pharmaceutical companies and academia.

Your Mission

We are now looking for an additional research nurse for our unit. We currently have about 16 research nurses divided into smaller groups working in teams with various types of cancer diagnoses. The work is independent, but we often help and support each other. We are located in completely new premises at entrance 100/101, where we have our offices that we share with each other, about 2-4 nurses per room. Close to us are the care departments, treatment departments, and outpatient clinics where we meet our patients.

As a research nurse, you have a central role as the contact nurse for patients participating in clinical trials/studies and are responsible for their planning, care, and treatment. The work involves both patient contact and a large part of administrative tasks such as regular care documentation, coordination, scheduling, and research-related documentation. You are involved in the process of starting new studies, and throughout the study, you are also the contact person for all our partners. As an employee at KFUE, you work closely with nurses and doctors in the clinic. We are a team with the patient at the center!

Here you will have a varied job with clinical research in a care-related environment, with many contacts both within Uppsala University Hospital, between hospitals nationally, and in collaboration with universities. Within KFUE, we conduct clinical trials in phases I-III, primarily drug studies but also studies in radiation therapy, radiopharmacy, and some phase IV studies. KFUE and BOT have one of three oncology phase I units approved by the Medical Products Agency in Sweden, and we are one of the very few clinics that can conduct academic phase I studies. Some of our clinical trials are conducted at the phase I trial unit where we administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and vaccines for the first time to humans and manage side effects and acute reactions. We collaborate with several major pharmaceutical companies.

Your Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse with at least five years of clinical experience and an interest in clinical trials. You have good knowledge of English. It is an advantage if you have experience working with clinical trials and knowledge of GCP previously and/or if you have experience working with oncology or hematology patients and/or treatments. Specialist nurse training in oncology care is an advantage. The CDD course is also an advantage.

Your Competence

You need to be well-structured, meticulous, and have good collaboration skills. As a research nurse, you need to be able to work independently and thrive in a work environment that places high demands on you.

We Offer

We work according to the competence model for research nurses and have a robust and individualized introduction program for newly hired nurses. You will be offered a permanent full-time position, with a probationary period of up to six months. With us, you will have the opportunity to further develop in the field through lectures and meetings that can be local and/or national. You will work daytime, Monday – Friday, flexible agreements are available. Salary and start date according to agreement.

With us, you will receive benefits that make a difference, read about the benefits here (https://regionuppsala.se/formaner/).
