Temporary Positions as Museum Hosts at the Historical Museum
Lund University was founded in 1666 and is consistently ranked as one of the world's leading universities. We have around 46,000 students and 8,500 employees in Lund, Helsingborg, and Malmö. We unite in our pursuit to understand, explain, and improve our world and the conditions of humanity.
About the Workplace
The Historical Museum at Lund University has Sweden's largest collection of objects from the Stone, Bronze, and Iron Ages. The museum also manages a coin cabinet, medieval church art, ethnographic objects, as well as antique and anatomical collections. The Historical Museum is responsible for the majority of the archaeological finds excavated in Skåne.
We Offer
Lund University is a public authority, which means you will receive special benefits, generous vacation, and a favorable occupational pension. Job Responsibilities and Duties
As a museum host, you will greet and welcome the museum's visitors in the entrance and exhibition halls. You are the face of the museum and an important part of our visitors' museum experience. Your work includes informing and guiding, as well as caring for and telling about the museum's objects. You will be part of a team that staffs the shop, reception, and exhibitions. As a museum host, you will also conduct tours and be responsible for the daily operation of the public areas in the museum. You will also work in our historical workshop, where we organize workshops and educational activities primarily for our younger audience.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is passionate about historical storytelling and has experience in interacting with museum visitors and conducting tours. You are studying or have studied archaeology, history, or another equivalent education related to the museum's activities and collections.
Since we have many international visitors, it is a requirement that you have good knowledge of Swedish and English. Additional language skills are an advantage. You need to be comfortable speaking in front of a group and engaging with visitors, as well as adapting your hosting to different people's backgrounds and experiences. We also appreciate experience working in reception and retail.
As you will be working in a team, it is important that you have good collaboration skills, are communicative, and have a flexible approach. Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as the ability to collaborate and communicate.
Requirements for Employment:
- University education (at least four semesters) in archaeology, history, or another education that we assess has a connection to our activities and collections.
- Good proficiency in Swedish and English in both spoken and written forms.
- Experience in public work at a museum.
- Experience in conducting tours and guided tours on historical subjects at a museum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in staffing reception and handling cash.
- Experience with security procedures and alarm management at a museum.
- Good knowledge of additional languages beyond Swedish and English.
Other Information
We are looking for 3–6 people who can work temporarily at a scope of 15–45% starting from June 1, 2025. The positions are time-limited until August 30, 2025. The positions will be scheduled for all weekdays, including weekends, throughout the employment period.
Since the position involves educational work with children, you will need to provide a criminal record extract if you are offered a position.
For information about the employment, please contact the house manager and event coordinator Anna Malinowski at +46 46 222 95 09 or via email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]).

The application should include a CV and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and how it matches your qualifications. The application should also include any other documents you wish to reference (copies of grades, references, recommendation letters, etc.).
You will also be asked to answer the mandatory questions, the majority of which are used for statistical purposes and to improve and ensure the quality of Lund University's recruitment process. Questions 11-13 are used in the selection process for the specific position as a museum host.
