Do You Want to Make a Difference in Someone's Everyday Life?
There are several meaningful assignments where you can contribute with support, joy, and community – while gaining valuable experience.
Reliever – Give Families a Breather
As a reliever, you support a child at home and give the guardians the opportunity for personal time – perhaps to run errands, spend time with siblings, or just rest.
You temporarily take over the care of the child at home or in the local area and create a safe and positive moment together. This can involve playing, reading, crafting, or doing other activities that suit the child.
A typical assignment involves about 3–6 hours per week.
Guide – Open Doors to Community
As a guide, you work closely with a person with extensive disabilities, enabling him or her to participate in community and cultural life.
This can involve:
- Meeting friends
- Going to the gym
- Bowling or playing mini-golf
- Swimming
- Having coffee
- Going for walks
Your efforts contribute to increased independence, community, and breaking the isolation that can sometimes occur.
A typical assignment involves about 3–6 hours per week.
The positions of reliever and guide are hourly-based. You will work shorter shifts, about 3-6 hours at a time, depending on what the individual desires. As a contact person, you receive a fixed fee and reimbursement for expenses. The number of hours to be performed is decided by the caseworker.
Work is usually performed in the afternoon/evening and on weekends, but daytime work on weekdays may also occur. The job offers great flexibility and works very well to combine with studies or another part-time job. The contact person role can be combined with full-time work.
Contact Person – Be an Important Friend
Being a contact person means being a fellow human and a social support – not primarily a professional role, but a friend.
According to LSS and the Social Services Act, individuals with disabilities can receive a contact person as support in everyday life. You help create social contacts, come up with activities, and increase participation in the community's leisure offerings.
The assignment involves 8 hours per month, usually distributed over two meetings of four hours each.
Regardless of which assignment you choose, you make a real difference – for an individual, a family, and for society as a whole.
Decisions regarding the services of relief, guidance, and contact person are made by the responsible social worker after individual needs assessment.
An Assignment That Gives More Than It Takes
Common to all assignments is that you contribute to increased quality of life, independence, and community. You enable people to participate in society on their terms.
- At the same time, you gain:
- Valuable experience
- Personal development
- New perspectives
- And the feeling of making a real difference
It's not just about hours – it's about significance.
