Job Advertisement: Personal Assistant for Carl

We are now looking for someone who wants to work with me either on a fixed schedule (65%) or on an hourly basis - day and evening!

Who am I?

My name is Carl and I am 2 years old with a rare diagnosis. We live in an apartment in central Gothenburg where we spend most of our time, but we also have a house in Lidköping that we visit every other weekend and during holidays. As my assistant, you will support and follow my development in several areas. I will need help from someone with extensive experience in care and support, but we also welcome those with a junior profile who have a big heart and curiosity. We grow together with experienced and new assistants on our shared journey.

What a day with me might look like:

Since I am a little child, I need close care and support for my needs. Due to congenital breathing difficulties, I have a tracheostomy tube (trach) that requires constant supervision and care. I communicate using signs and enjoy playing, cuddling, singing children's songs, going for walks in my stroller, and learning new things. There are always two assistants working with me as I need someone who sees me all the time and interprets my signals about what I need help with. Much of my routine is structured, but you will learn this during your introduction and as you get to know my needs. You will accompany me on my journey at the beginning of life, which will also include future hospital visits and surgeries.

Who are you?

With me, you need to be a secure person who respects and is curious and attentive to my needs. You are responsible and easily adapt to routines in speech and writing. Communication needs to be clear and smooth, as acute situations may arise that need to be resolved effectively and safely. We prefer that you have experience or are studying for a care or rescue service profession, but above all, that you have an interest in me as a little child and want to learn new things. If you can use some signs as support, that is a big plus, but it is not a requirement. We are now looking for someone with a bit more experience in care or as an assistant. If you have a nursing assistant education or equivalent, that is an advantage. We need you to contribute to the development and competence of the current workgroup.

About the positions:

Position 1:

Day/evening. Working hours are 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM during the day and approximately 3 PM - 10 PM in the evening. The position is about 65%. Work shifts are Monday to Friday, but the days you work per week may vary.

Additionally, there are about 3-4 on-call shifts per month. On-call means that you are reachable by phone for a few hours and ready to step in and work if a colleague gets sick. These shifts are either from 7 AM - 11 AM (for day shift cover) or 3 PM - 7 PM (for evening shift cover).

Position 2:

Extra hours. Working hours are 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM during the day and approximately 3 PM - 10 PM in the evening.

The position is available immediately. However, employment will take place before that as you will be scheduled for shadowing and trach training.
