Description

We are currently looking for a school counselor! You will be responsible for grades F-3 and the position is divided 50% at Jättestensskolan and 50% at Nya skolan.

You will be a colleague to our current counselor who is responsible for grades 6-9.

The position is a temporary employment for the school year 26/27.

Jättestensskolan is a municipal primary school located in southern Biskopsgården, on Hisingen in Gothenburg. We have a multicultural catchment area that includes students from various backgrounds. The school has approximately 620 students and around 80 staff members. We are a school that has high expectations for both students and staff. There is a strong commitment among the staff and a big heart for all our students. An indicator that Jättestensskolan is a stable and well-functioning school is that 90% of the students in grade 9 were eligible for vocational programs in high school in the spring of 2025. We are also one of three schools in Gothenburg with the highest demand for preschool class.

Nya skolan is a F-3 school and is located near Jättestensskolan. Nya skolan is beautifully situated adjacent to nature and activity areas at Svarte Mosse in Länsmansgården. The school is relatively newly established and together we focus on building a school with high professionalism in all areas of education and with much collaboration and community among both staff and students. The school has about 250 students and 40 staff members.

Responsibilities

As a school counselor, you will be part of the school's and the school area's student health team and contribute with psychosocial competence at the organizational, group, and individual levels. In the student health work, you will collaborate with teachers, school nurses, special educators, psychologists, school doctors, and assistant principals. The team's mission is to work health-promoting and preventive together with the assistant principal and working groups to strengthen children's and adolescents' opportunities to achieve their goals.

Your responsibilities include participating in the school's ongoing values and safety work, support conversations, collaborating with and supporting guardians, consulting with staff, and interventions in groups/classes. You will also collaborate with external actors such as social services, habilitation, UPH, and BUP. You will support and guide the school's staff in their interactions and relationship-building with students and parents, as well as support how staff can think and act when they are concerned that a child is in distress.

You will work with groups in acute need and for preventive purposes, as well as contribute with a social and psychosocial perspective in the development of the educational activities. You have a good ability to express yourself in speech and writing and will conduct school social investigations and assessments, as well as investigate student absenteeism. You document your work in PMO and have good knowledge of the Social Services Act and the Education Act.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is a social worker or has another higher education that the employer deems equivalent. We would like you to have experience working as a school counselor as well as experience working with children and youth. The following are also meritorious:

  • Experience working in social services
  • Experience in promoting and preventive measures
  • Training in conversation methodology/supervision

As a person, you are stable, empathetic, unpretentious, and secure in your professional role. You have a strong commitment to the psychosocial situation of children and adolescents and an ability to translate this into work both at the individual level and towards groups and organizations. You enable children's storytelling and contribute to highlighting students' participation and perspectives.

You find it easy to build relationships and are professional and respectful in your interactions with students, guardians, and colleagues. You need to have an interest in working in an educational environment and in teams with different professions.

You are structured and clear in your work and enjoy working both independently and in collaboration with other professionals, as well as having the ability to take initiative and make decisions within the framework of your assignment. The professional role requires a high degree of independence, collaboration skills, and personal maturity. You enjoy working with complex issues, see opportunities, and are creative. You remain calm in difficult situations and can make well-founded decisions under time pressure.

Within the primary school administration, you will participate in professional meetings once a month together with counselor colleagues and professional developers and participate in external supervision.
