The Department of Health Sciences is seeking two PhD students in Health Science

The Department of Health Sciences is seeking two PhD students in Health Science within the framework of the national graduate school DACHE – Development of Academic Competence in Healthcare Education.

Job Responsibilities

The DACHE graduate school offers a structured and stimulating research environment with the goal of increasing the number of PhD-educated teachers and thereby strengthening the quality of higher education for health and medical professions. As a PhD student, you are expected to conduct research that highlights challenges within health and medical education in a complex healthcare system. The research may encompass both clinical health science and issues related to pedagogy, profession, and educational development. A PhD student should primarily devote themselves to their doctoral education. Limited duties within education, research, or administration may occur, but no more than 20 percent of full-time (Higher Education Ordinance 5 chap. 2 §).

Eligibility

Basic eligibility

For admission to doctoral education, basic and specific eligibility is required, as well as assessed ability to benefit from the education.

Basic eligibility (HF 7 chap. 39 §) is held by those who:

  • have obtained a degree at the advanced level, have completed course requirements of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits at the advanced level, or in another way, within or outside the country, acquired substantially equivalent knowledge.

Specific eligibility

  • at least 90 credits, of which 30 credits at the advanced level, in a subject relevant to the research area (health science) or equivalent knowledge, good ability to communicate in spoken and written Swedish and English, particularly meritorious is competence that contributes to the department's education within the nursing program or specialist nursing education.

Assessment Criteria

Regulations for employment as a PhD student can be found in SFS 1998:80. Only those who are admitted to doctoral education can be employed. Special emphasis is placed on the applicant's ability to benefit from doctoral education during the appointment process. In addition to doctoral education, the PhD student may be assigned duties within education, research, or administration according to applicable regulations.

Selection Criteria

Selection is based on assessed ability to complete doctoral education. The assessment is based on: previous study results, independent work at the advanced level, scientific works or reports, research merits, documented work experience, and the research proposal to be attached to the application.

The research proposal should briefly describe: problem formulation and identified knowledge gap related to DACHE's focus, suggestions on how the problem can be investigated, including possible and appropriate methods, relevant scientific method references, adequate language treatment, and formalities.

Interviews will be conducted with a selection of applicants.

Conditions

Fixed-term employment for four years according to HF 5 chap. 7§.

The Faculty of Medicine is an area of operation within Lund University, responsible for education and research in medicine, care, and health. Education is conducted in close collaboration with healthcare and is well anchored in the faculty's strong research tradition. The faculty's research spans a broad field of experimental basic research, patient-centered clinical research, and health science research. The Faculty of Medicine, with over 1,800 employees and 3,000 students in Lund, Malmö, and Helsingborg, is an intensive knowledge meeting place for students, teachers, and researchers from around the world.

At the Department of Health Sciences, we work to increase knowledge about how people can regain and maintain their health. We educate the future healthcare and rehabilitation personnel across all categories at the undergraduate, advanced, and doctoral education levels. We conduct research on issues related to people's health: prevention, treatment, care, support, and rehabilitation. The activities are located in both Malmö and Lund and have a close connection to healthcare within Skåne University Hospital, primary care, and municipal care.
