Then you could be the employee we are looking for to strengthen the Resource Efficiency Unit.
The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency works to provide the government with knowledge and well-analyzed decision-making bases and to drive climate and environmental policy within the EU and internationally.
The Resource Efficiency Unit is responsible for international reporting of data, monitoring of national goals, official statistics, and data and related knowledge supply regarding waste and waste management. In general, the unit works to generate knowledge, develop and implement steering instruments and measures for an economically efficient transition to a circular economy.
The assignment also includes contributing to environmental work within the EU and internationally. The unit is located in Stockholm and Östersund and has employees with interdisciplinary competence. The Resource Efficiency Unit's waste statistics group currently consists of 4 administrators.
Your main tasks and responsibilities
The core of your and your colleagues' mission in the waste statistics group will be to:
- develop national waste statistics,
- carry out the EU joint reporting and monitoring of goals within the waste area, and
- implement and develop quality assurance of working methods and data.
Your tasks may vary over time.
The waste statistics group works broadly within the waste statistics area. The work includes, among other things, ordering statistics and other data-related services from external consultants, which form the basis for reporting back to the EU. In addition to reporting to the EU, goal follow-ups and statistical results are communicated so that the results benefit the public and policy development.
Furthermore, expertise is provided as needed in negotiations and implementation of EU joint and national waste legislation. In the development of data collection via IT services, the group contributes requirements for IT solutions.
Collaboration takes place with other authorities, the Government Offices, and various actors providing information on waste. A well-functioning internal collaboration is also important as waste issues are handled in several different departments and units at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
Requirements for employment
- We are looking for you who have a degree (when the position starts) from relevant technical, natural, or social science higher education.
- Understanding of and interest in statistics.
- Basic understanding of Swedish and EU waste legislation.
- Ability to act as a client for consulting services.
- Understanding of waste streams such as packaging, batteries.
- Good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish and English.
Preferred qualifications
- Education in (program or individual courses) in statistics.
- Education in (program or individual courses) on waste issues or related environmental issues.
- At least 1 year of work in tasks relevant to the position such as:
- experience in statistical reporting, for example to the EU and/or
- experience in statistical work preferably within waste or circular economy.
- experience of work related to waste legislation or waste streams.
- Experience in formulating requirements for the design of IT for collecting statistics.
Personal qualities
You are flexible, meaning you can easily switch between different tasks. We also see that you have good self-leadership. For this position, it is required that you are analytical and structured. It is also important to have good collaboration skills.
About the employment
The employment is a permanent full-time position that begins with a six-month probationary period. The placement of the position is Stockholm or Östersund. Travel in the service may occur. Start date as soon as possible by agreement. We apply individual salary setting.
