About the American High School

The American High School was founded based on a strong educational idea. Our guiding principle is that “we work for our students and staff to reach their full potential.” Therefore, we work on both knowledge development and personal development. Our culture is characterized by clear rules with care. We call it “Frames and Hugs.” The school activities are organized to prepare students for an international job market in a rapidly changing world, which is why our logo reads “Get ready for the world.”

Everything that happens at the school is based on our four core values: Courage, Kindness, Knowledge & Curiosity, and Grit. In classrooms and corridors, interactions between students and staff are characterized by behaviors derived from these values. We work closely with students and always prioritize their best interests.

About the American High School, Uppsala

The school is centrally located in the Luthagen area. The school is now in its fourth academic year and has approximately 260 students studying in the Natural Sciences, Economics, or Social Sciences programs.

About the role

As a school nurse at the American High School, you are a central part of the school's Student Health and the medical intervention (EMI). You work health-promoting and preventive with a focus on strengthening students' health, well-being, and learning conditions. With your medical and nursing competence, you contribute to creating a safe, inclusive, and health-promoting school environment.

The medical student health services at the American High School are organized in collaboration with Klara Student Health, which means you have access to a well-structured and professional student health organization. You work closely with the school management and student health team at the school, while also receiving support from Klara Student Health's network of school nurses and medically responsible leaders.

In this role, you have independent responsibility for planning, structuring, and executing your work throughout the academic year, in line with applicable governing documents and medical guidelines. At the same time, you are provided with good opportunities for collegial support, experience exchange, and professional development.

Through the collaboration with Klara Student Health, you are offered continuous training, supervision, and skill development within EMI. We believe in a sustainable and development-oriented work climate where your competence is valued and given the opportunity to grow, while you contribute to strengthening and developing the student health work at the school.

The position is a permanent part-time position at 30%, starting with a 6-month probationary period. Start date as soon as possible or by agreement.

Student-centered work

In the role of school nurse, you actively work closely with students and are a visible part of the school day. This means you meet students in various contexts and environments at the school—not just in the reception. You move around the school premises, build relationships in everyday life, and help lower the barriers for contact and support.

The student-centered work also includes health-promoting and preventive measures at the group and class level, such as holding lectures or workshops for students on topics like sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress, tobacco, alcohol, and drugs, tailored to students' ages and needs. Through this work, you contribute to strengthening students' knowledge, self-awareness, and ability to make healthy choices.

Your profile

We are looking for a licensed nurse with specialized training in one of the following areas: district nurse, pediatric nurse, or school nurse program at the University of Skövde.

As a school nurse, you are a caring and empathetic person with a flexible attitude and a strong sense of responsibility. You are decisive and confident in your professional role, with the ability to make well-informed decisions within your area of competence. You collaborate well with others and easily build trusting relationships with students, colleagues, and guardians. We are looking for someone who is meticulous, has good planning and organizational skills, and is a skilled communicator who can motivate and inspire others.
