Skaraborg Hospital (SkaS) is strengthening its legal competence and is looking for two employees for a joint function to meet a growing and more complex need in the operations.

The assignment includes both breadth and depth, where legal support is a central part of ensuring lawful care, patient safety, and a labor law perspective.

We are looking for employees who together can form a competence mix, where there is both a common legal foundation and complementary competencies.

Overall Responsibilities

The roles will provide support to managers, leadership, and operations within SkaS, including by:

• providing qualified legal advice on operational issues
• contributing to lawful decisions and processes
• handling cases regarding public access and confidentiality, administrative law, municipal law, medical law, as well as damages, labor law, intellectual property law, and contract law
• supporting responsible managers in complex considerations between law, operational requirements, and patient safety
• providing support to the patient safety function and operations in matters concerning the patient's position in care
• participating in the development of routines, governing documents, and working methods
• collaborating with the Region's central functions and external actors

Desired Competence Mix

Together, the two positions should cover the following areas. It is not a requirement that each applicant masters all parts, but a good understanding of the whole and the ability to work closely together is necessary.

• Administrative law
• Patient safety and healthcare law
• Crisis preparedness and special events
• Labor law

Experience and Formal Competence

A law degree is a requirement for one of the positions. Experience in qualified legal work in public operations is an advantage.

The Västra Götaland Region has networks with lawyers from different hospitals and administrations, led by the Legal Unit at the region's central administration. The region's lawyers have a well-developed collaboration.

For the second position, other relevant higher education or equivalent competence may be applicable in combination with:

• good experience in qualified legal work, preferably within the public sector
• work with healthcare law, patient safety, or labor law
• documented ability to independently make legal assessments and provide qualified support to managers and leadership

Regardless of educational background, the following is requested:

• experience working in public operations, region, municipality, or another complex organization
• good ability to translate regulations and legal requirements into practical and operational support
• understanding of how law interacts with the healthcare mission, organization, and professions
• comfort with educational assignments

• have good pedagogical skills and can explain legal issues in an accessible way
• are confident in advisory and supportive roles
• can make well-considered assessments in complex and sometimes time-pressured situations
• have integrity, good judgment, and a strong sense of responsibility as well as self-leadership
